York County, Virginia Yorktown is most remembered as the site where Lord Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington, effectively ending the American Revolutionary War.

York County, Virginia is a dynamic coastal community, well-loved by its citizens, located in the heart of the Historic Triangle—alongside Williamsburg and Jamestown. This photo, taken in June 1941, shows the beach bustling with visitors along the waterfront. More than 80 years later, Yorktown Beach remains a favorite destination for residents and visitors alike, especially during the summer months.
