We are honored to share that the York County Coalition on Homelessness was recently recognized through Bell Socialization Services, Inc. Good People Initiative. Coalition Coordinator Kelly Blechertas accepted this recognition on behalf of the Coalition, but the staff team knew immediately that this work is only possible because of the many partners who show up every day to support our community.

In the spirit of the Good People Initiative, the Coalition staff chose to spread that recognition forward by honoring three outstanding partners whose dedication makes a meaningful difference in the lives of York County residents:

๐Ÿ† Dr. Lori Bowman, York City School Districtโ€“ For her unwavering commitment to supporting students and families experiencing homelessness and housing instability, and for helping ensure that children have access to the resources and stability they need to succeed.

๐Ÿ† Annie Camillo, York County Prison โ€“ For her efforts to connect individuals with services, treatment options, and community supports both during incarceration and as they prepare to return to the community.

๐Ÿ† The team at York Opioid Collaborative (Collective Response Initiative York) โ€“ For their ongoing work to ensure individuals experiencing substance use challenges can access services, support, and pathways toward recovery.

Addressing homelessness requires collaboration, compassion, and a commitment to meeting people where they are. We are grateful to work alongside so many dedicated professionals and organizations who help make York County a stronger, more supportive community for all.

Thank you to Bell Socialization Services, Inc. for this recognition, and allowing us to pass this appreciation on!

The York County Coalition on Homelessness is aware of the City of Yorkโ€™s โ€œCompassionate Clear-Outโ€ initiative.

The Coalition met with City representatives in mid-April and provided information on established encampment response practices. The City indicated a plan would be developed and shared with partners for coordination at a later meeting; however, the Coalition was not involved in the development of the plan prior to its public release.

As this is a City-led initiative and not a coordinated Coalition effort, we recommend directing questions about implementation and operations to the City of York.

The Coalition remains committed to supporting a coordinated, housing-focused response to homelessness in York County.

The YCCH Book Club has been going strong, and weโ€™re thrilled to share some of the great titles weโ€™ve explored together so far:

The Three Melissas by Diane D. Nilan & Diana Bowman

If You See Them by Vicki Sokolik

There Is No Place For Us by Brian Goldstone

Our book club has been exploring powerful stories that shed light on housing and homelessness. Each discussion has sparked empathy, awareness, and meaningful conversations.

We canโ€™t wait to continue learning and reading together! We will be back in 2026 with some new reads!
