An Update from Steven's Disposal
Guidelines for toter/cart use
1. Face it the Right Direction
• Lid opening should face the street so the truck’s mechanical arm can grab and dump it efficiently.
• Handles should face your house unless your city uses an alternate method.
2. Give It Enough Space
• Keep 3 feet of space from:
o Other carts
o Mailboxes
o Vehicles
o Trees / poles / fences
• Keep cans a minimum of 2 feet apart from each other to give the mechanical arm room.
• Do not block carts behind vehicles or landscaping. (if we cannot see it, we cannot service it).
3. Keep It at the Curb—Not in the Street
• Place the cart at the edge of your driveway or curb, not out in the roadway.
4. Make Sure the Lid Is Fully Closed
• Do not overfill; the lid must be completely shut.
• Overfilled Toters may spill or not be collected.
• Additional cart can be acquired for those who consistently exceed one cart volume. Contact your community management or Stevens Disposal to inquire.
5. Set It Out on Time
• Put it out by 6:00 AM on pickup day or the night before.
6. Keep It Clear of Obstructions
• Ensure nothing is between the Toter and the street (cars, snowbanks, branches).
• Maintain vertical clearance if possible so collection arms can lift the cart.
