State Senator Ceci Maher

State Senator Ceci Maher State Senator Ceci Maher represents Connecticut's 26th State Senate District. I’ve spent nearly all my life in Fairfield County. Let’s work together!

I grew up in Stamford, worked in New Canaan and Darien, volunteered in Westport, and raised my family first in Norwalk and later in Wilton, where I call home. In a lifetime of living in our community, I’ve met people from all walks of life – and I’ve seen that we share so much in common, no matter who we are and what city or town we live in. Our neighbors are fundamentally good and decent. We care

about our families, our towns, and one another. We turn out to help in natural disasters and we show up to support our neighbors in times of need. In 20 years of leading nonprofits, volunteering, and holding local public office, I’ve had the chance to make an impact on some of the most important issues our communities face, from educational opportunity to access to food and housing. It’s been a tough few years for so many of us, from the pandemic to the economy to national politics. But I remain optimistic about our future because I know we can work together and make progress on our community’s most important issues. As State Senator for the 26th District, I will be a strong voice in Hartford with you as my partners.

ICE activity in Stamford has left families afraid to send their kids to school, go to work, or even open their own front door.

No one in our community should have to live like this. The Stamford legislative delegation stands with our immigrant neighbors, and we will keep standing with you. If you or someone you know has been impacted, please know this: you have the right to remain silent and to speak with an attorney, you do not have to share your immigration status or place of birth, you should never sign something you don’t understand without a lawyer, and you can ask ICE agents to show a warrant before opening your door.

For more resources, reach out to Building One Community, the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights project, or the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants. Please share this with anyone who may need it.

Our immigrant neighbors are part of Stamford. You have rights. You are not alone.

Ridgefield and Weston are getting real relief for special education, $350,000 and $124,305 to help build in-district programs that keep kids close to home instead of relying on costly out-of-district placements. Grateful to Governor Lamont and state officials for backing our schools and the students who need this support most.

Connecticut’s Sales Tax-Free Week runs through August 22, and it’s worth planning your shopping around this year. The exemption threshold jumped from $100 to $300 per item, so families can buy a real winter coat, a solid pair of work boots, or actual school shoes tax-free this week. Backpacks and cleated shoes are included in the exemption for the first time too. And pens, pencils, notebooks, folders, and lunch boxes are now tax-exempt every day of the year, not just this week, saving our families real money as the school year gets underway.

Great to spend time this week with partners from the Connecticut Farmers Market Association and the state Department of Agriculture, talking about why farmers markets matter so much to our towns: community hubs, small business boosters, and a real source of food access for local families.

I joined state and Yale New Haven Health leaders for the ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of the Yale New Haven Children’s Crisis Intervention Center. This new space will play a vital role in offering expanded access to emergency behavioral health care for children and families in our communities.

I had the honor of joining Governor Lamont at Stamford Health as he signed Public Act 26-26, our new law strengthening accountability and transparency across Connecticut’s child welfare system. The signing also marked the opening of Stamford Hospital’s new pediatric EmPATH unit, a dedicated crisis care center giving kids in urgent need a place built specifically for them, made possible through this legislation. I’m grateful to colleagues in both chambers and on both sides of the aisle who helped get this bill across the finish line for Connecticut’s children.

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Fairfield County until 4:00 PM today. Heavy rain has already caused flooding in parts of Wilton and New Canaan, with more storms possible through the afternoon and evening.

If you encounter a flooded road, turn around, don’t drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles. Avoid low-lying areas and underpasses, and move to higher ground if you’re in a flood-prone spot.

Stay safe
