On April 22, 2017 the 3rd Annual Jim Edd Shearer Memorial Coaster Car Derby, will give local children, ages 7 and up, the chance to race down Main Street in coaster cars. Anyone and everyone can build a car! Approved coaster cars must be AASBD Kit Cars. “Kit Cars” are built from All American Soap Box Derby Stock, Super Stock, and/or Scottie kits and also must pass necessary inspections. Weight limit is 200 lbs (car + driver). Inspections @ 11am

Races @ 1:30pm

The Jim Edd Shearer Memorial Coaster Car Derby is Saturday, April 27, 2024. Mark your calendar.

If you have a child between the ages of 7 and 14, you should reach out to RogerandJudy Woolums for a chance to drive a car. There are a limited number of available cars and not everyone is guaranteed a spot. However, for those capable, sponsoring a car will guarantee a car for your child for years to come.

The Coaster Car Derby in Wilmore has officially been rescheduled for May 20, 2023 due to forecasted rain on race day. Be sure to show up on May 20, 2023 for this year's race!

After checking multiple local and national weather channels & phone apps, talking with the Mayor and Rob Gullette who is co-organizer of the Coaster Car Derby, we have made the decision to cancel tomorrow's event. Rain predictions range from 70% to 100%. Foremost in our decision process is the safety of the participants and spectators, plus the major manpower, time and resources needed from multiple city and county departments and the volunteers who assist. It is no small undertaking, and it is an event which cannot be held in rain.

So, mark your calendars for May 15th - and we will try it again.
