In order for a PFD (aka Life Jacket) to work...it must be worn. Nationally, 87% of all drowning victims in recreational boating fatalities were not wearing a life jacket. With drowning accounting for about 76% of all boating-related deaths, failing to wear a life jacket remains the single largest contributing factor to boating fatalities.

People have the idea that if they capsize, they can easily don a PFD. There are two forces working against each other. Your body wants to sink and your PFD wants to float...get the picture.

The person in this video is an extremely seasoned paddler and taught paddling and outdoor emergency for REI. He dispels the myth of "I can easily put my PFD on if I flip". This person is in excellent physical condition and he had a tough time. Please
