Willimantic Third Thursday Street Fest Welcome to 3rd Thrsday Street Fest
Come for dinner,

and enjoy the beautiful architecture.

Every third Thursday from May to September, thousands of people from far and wide stroll along Main Street Willimantic amid a background of musical, theatrical, visual and olfactory delights. There are clowns and bands and giant stilters to entertain you as you meander through the fest. Local and regional crafters and vendors showcase the wealth of goods produced in Connecticut. Willimantic Renaissance, Inc. , a grassroots 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed to revitalize downtown Willimantic by celebrating diversity, building community and attracting consumers. 3rd Thursday Street Fest is truly a community event, completely organized by volunteers and with no paid staff. In 2002, the first year of the festival, there were 3,000 – 6,000 attendees at each festival. In future years attendance has continued to grow and now averages over 8,000 attendees at each fest. Surveys of attendees have shown that most folks come from the surrounding towns but many also come from New London, Manchester, West Hartford, New Haven, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts too.

Most everyone probably knows this already, but today may break temperature records, and even though this is in the evening, it may not cool off very much. You may have heard on the news, people were passing out at graduation ceremonies yesterday, and with a lot of people packed into Main Street, it'll be best for everyone to be as healthy as possible. So start drinking water NOW and continue all day--and might even want to consider eating light--high temps are not the friend of digestion--and maybe even freeze a couple water bottles to bring with you to keep you cool-even putting it on your skin can help. But just think, with all those people around and crowding, if anyone needed medical help, it'd be tougher to get to them and get people out of the way, so let's be as healthy as we can and tell anyone you know who is planning to go! And they've been saying--elderly, children, anyone in less than awesome health should stay inside with the AC--so plan wisely :)
