Earlier this morning, a Williamston Police Department School Resource Officer Lieutenant was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic in front of Palmetto Schools on Hamilton Street. Fortunately, the officer sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Pelzer Urgent Care Center.

The driver of the vehicle was cited and released at the scene.

This incident serves as an important reminder of the dangers officers face while directing traffic and working in school zones each day. We urge all motorists to slow down, remain alert, and use extra caution when traveling through school zones to help keep our students, staff, and first responders safe.

On behalf of WPD we thank everyone who attended last night’s Fraternal Order of Police Fallen Officer Memorial service. It was a solemn reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face each and every day in service to our communities.

We are grateful for the dedication and sacrifice of all officers serving the Anderson County area and across the nation. We especially remember those whose names are engraved on the memorial monument. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. We also honor and remember our fallen police K-9s who faithfully served alongside their handlers in protecting our communities.

The men and women of WPD mourn the loss of a fellow officer serving the Greenwood Police Department.

Officer Don "DJ" Keller was killed in the line of duty on May 11, 2026, during a collision from a police pursuit while protecting his community.

Officer Keller served as a police officer for three years after previously serving in the military. He was dedicated to protecting others and proud to serve his community. He leaves behind his wife, Alison, and their 2-year-old daughter.

Our hearts and prayers are with his fellow officers, family, and friends.

As National Police Week 2026 begins, the Williamston Police Department would like to thank the businesses, citizens, and community members who continually support law enforcement and the officers who serve.

Most importantly, we want to recognize and thank the men and women who serve this town and communities across our country each day. Your dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting others do not go unnoticed. During this week, we especially remember and honor the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

A Law Enforcement Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, May 13, at 6:00 PM at the Anderson County Courthouse. We invite all members of the community to attend as we honor those heroes and stand together in support of law enforcement.

Thank you to all who serve and to those who continue to support them each day.

Proud Day for WPD!

Two of our candidates, Officers Kretzmer and Cushman, have officially graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy! After five months of intense training, they are ready to serve our community with professionalism and dedication.

A special congratulations to Jackson Cushman, who earned the Director’s Award for Physical Fitness, an outstanding achievement and first for the Williamston PD!

We are grateful to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office who partnered with us to provide pre academy training and to all of our officers who coached and mentored these two along the way.

Please join us in congratulating them as we welcome our officers back to Williamston!

Yesterday the Williamston Police Department was honored to participate in the 20th Annual South Carolina Law Enforcement Memorial Service held on May 6 at the Statehouse Grounds in Columbia.

This solemn service honors the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while serving the citizens of South Carolina. This year, we remembered the officer lost in 2025, along with historical officers whose service and sacrifice span generations.

The memorial serves as an important opportunity for law enforcement agencies from across our state to stand united, reflect on the tremendous sacrifices made by those who wore the badge, and ensure their courage and dedication are never forgotten.

We remain forever grateful to those who gave their lives in service to others, and we will continue to honor their legacy.

This week WPD would like to recognize Professional Municipal Clerks’ Week, and we are proud to highlight the outstanding work of our very own Michelle Starnes.

Michelle serves as a critical part of our team, ensuring the accuracy, transparency, and organization that keep our operations running effectively. Her dedication to detail, professionalism, and commitment to public service make a lasting impact not only within our department, but across the entire community.

The work of a municipal clerk often happens behind the scenes, but it is essential to maintaining trust, accountability, and efficiency in local government, and Michelle exemplifies those values every single day.

Please join us in thanking Michelle Starnes for her continued hard work and service. We are truly grateful to have her as part of our team.
