Alright, Williamsport. A community member desperately needs help, let's show up 🙏

A Williamsport local has asked us to do a simple favor: share her gofundme.

The local is Nicole Alvarez, a woman who has had a year of hardship in no small part due to ICE. About a year ago, her husband Roberto Diego Alvarez Oliva was taken by ICE. All he was doing was entering a grocery store. He had been in the US for three years, was married, had a step-son and an eight-month old son. He had no criminal record, and was on his way to citizenship.

He was deported to Peru anyway.

Since then, Nicole has been providing for her children as a single parent. She has had to help them work through an impossible situation, keep her home financially stable, work on legal support for Roberto, and now has been dealt another horrible hand. Her mother has late stage COPD and needs a lung transplant.

Folks, if you could give even a small donation to this family, we know this would mean the world to them.

Today we remember all the lives lost thanks to a needless act of violence, which didn't end on September 11, 2001.

We send love to all those who lost a loved one, and gratitude to the heroes of that day. Every responder, every neighbor, every helper, every witness turned into a hero that day.

Never forget.

TONIGHT! Let's learn how to canvas, and get your favorite candidate voted in!

Canvassing is the best way to inform communities about a candidate. And during this election, it's more important than ever.

Join us tonight at 6pm. Williamsport Rising space at the Pajama Factory (room 434). Park in the smokestack parking lot on Cemetery st, and enter the building on the far right door. We'll have snacks, great energy, and important information to share!

Friends, this isn't like our normal posts.

Real talk, we're all terrified for the November election. We all deserve a fair election. And it's a very real possibility that we won't get one. It's beyond scary.

It's scary, AND there is something we can do about it. Every single one of us - regardless of experience - can keep our election safe. It's not fair that we need to step up to protect it. It's not right. But it's true.

There are a few ways in which average people like you and me can protect our democracy. One of which is canvassing for the candidates that won't f**k us over. Other ways are volunteering at the polls (more info on that soon!)

If you are able, please come to the Canvassing Workshop tonight at 6pm. We'll talk about how to canvas (and how easy it is!), the power of it, and what you can do to get involved.
