The Williamsburg Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Battalion Chief Cary Middlebrook to Deputy Fire Chief!
Following a highly competitive selection process that included an exceptional group of candidates, Chief Middlebrook distinguished himself through his leadership, experience, and unwavering commitment to the department. His accomplishments throughout his career, combined with his dedication to continuous personal and professional growth, made him the clear choice to lead our Operations Division.
Chief Middlebrook’s journey with the Williamsburg Fire Department began as a volunteer while attending Bruton High School. In August 2005, he was hired as a full-time firefighter and has since advanced through every operational rank within the department. Along the way, he has served as a Senior Firefighter, Master Firefighter, Primary Field Training Officer, Captain, Battalion Chief, Fire Marshal, and member of several local and regional technical rescue teams, including Virginia Task Force 2.
Throughout his career, Chief Middlebrook has played a key role in numerous initiatives that have strengthened our department and improved service to our community. His contributions include advancing the use of technology to improve operational efficiency, helping develop the department’s Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) program, and overseeing the implementation of the US Digital station alerting system in our new fire station.
Since January 2023, Chief Middlebrook has served as the Battalion Chief assigned to B-Shift, where he has continued to demonstrate the leadership, professionalism, and dedication that have defined his career.
