➡️ What’s an IRB?
An Industrial Revenue Bond transaction helps growing companies secure below-market interest rates on large capital investments. The City is not lending any money and no taxpayer dollars at risk. It is project-specific, meaning that Boeing will pay nothing in Sedgwick County property taxes on this project for the next 10 years.

➡️ Do they pay any taxes?
Yes! Boeing paid $11.8M in property taxes in 2025. This IRB will not impact their current tax rate at all, which means they will still pay taxes, and the only thing that’s tax exempt is their new project, which will provide more tax dollars in the future.

➡️ Why approve an IRB?
Businesses and their employees contribute to our tax base. By increasing our tax base through recruiting and retaining local jobs and supporting the growth of local businesses, we lessen the potential need to explore other funding mechanisms to meet operational needs in the future.

➡️ Is there a benefit now?
Benefits start even before the IRB expires: in the first 10 years, there is a 1.63 to 1 benefit for Sedgwick County, and over 20 years, this grows to a 2.82 to 1 benefit.
