When someone gets their rocks off to hurting others… why do you think someone would do this to a complete stranger?

He booted me from the group when I stood up for myself by the way.

Imagine having a daughter and never once imagining that you would have to learn how to live without her.

You spend six years watching her become a person.

You memorize the sound of her laugh without realizing you’re memorizing it. You buy the next size of clothes because of course she’ll grow into them. You picture braces, school dances, teenage attitude, learning to drive. You wonder what she’ll be when she grows up. You imagine graduation pictures. College. Her first apartment. Maybe one day, a wedding. Maybe one day, standing beside her while she holds her own baby and finally understands just how fiercely you have loved her since the moment she was born.

You imagine an entire lifetime and then, at six years old, her future screeches to a stop.

Six.

Do you understand how small six is?

Six is still needing help reaching things on the top shelf. Six is baby teeth and bedtime stories. Six is stuffed animals and cartoons and believing Mom can fix almost anything. Six is supposed to be the beginning.

Instead, I had to watch the world keep moving after hers stopped.

There would be no seventh birthday.

No new school pictures.

No awkward middle-school phase.

No first crush.

No driver’s license.

No graduation cap sitting crooked on her head while I cried because my baby somehow grew up.

No wedding dress.

No grandchildren with pieces of her face looking back at me.

Every milestone other parents get to complain about, celebrate, photograph, or take for granted became something I would never have.

And grief isn’t only missing the six-year-old daughter I had.

I grieve the seven-year-old I never met.

The nine-year-old she should be today.

The teenager whose bedroom door I should someday be knocking on.

The young woman I should have watched discover who she was.

The adult daughter who should have called me just to talk.

The entire woman my little girl was supposed to become was taken from this world before I ever got the chance to meet her.

People sometimes think losing a child means losing the years you already had.

It doesn’t.

You lose forward.

Again and again and again.

Every birthday shows you the age she didn’t reach. Every school year introduces you to the child she should have been. Every graduation, wedding, pregnancy announcement, mother-daughter picture, and ordinary family moment can become another glimpse into a life that should have existed.

I didn’t bury six years.

I buried a lifetime.

I buried every version of Katarina I was supposed to meet and somehow, I am expected to wake up every morning inside a world that continues to age while my daughter remains six forever.

That is the cruelty of losing a child.

A mother’s love keeps growing.
Her child does not.

Some people are so deeply miserable with their own lives that the only way they know how to feel important is to make someone else hurt.

So they attack. They gossip. They spread lies. They twist stories they were never part of and speak on pain they could never begin to understand.

But there is a special kind of ugly in choosing a grieving mother as your target.

Imagine looking at a mother carrying the weight of losing her child and thinking, ā€œHow can I make her life harder?ā€ That doesn’t expose anything about her character. It exposes yours.

You can dislike me. You can misunderstand me. You can talk about me until you’re exhausted. But if tearing down a grieving mother gives you even a moment of satisfaction, I don’t need to defend myself against you.

Your behavior has already told everyone exactly who you are.

I’m totally ugly crying right now but this needs to be said:

In 2025, we quietly started something incredibly special. Out of our own pockets, Rob and I began helping kiddos afford programs at Red River Valley Athletics. We didn’t make a big announcement about it. We didn’t expect recognition. We were just so excited to silently honor Katarina at one of the places she loved most. šŸ’› That first year, we gave $1,380 to help kids participate.

Then, at the end of 2025, we started Justice For Katarina LLC, and because of YOU, we were blessed enough to DOUBLE what we could give.

šŸ’› 2025: $1,380
šŸ’› 2026: $2,760
šŸ’› 2027 goal: $5,520, if approved by the board

As this year starts to wrap up, I have two things I really want to say:

Thank you and please know where your money is going.

I will never ask you to blindly trust me with your donations. I am never offended if someone asks where their money went, and I will always be willing to show you proof. You work hard for your money, and when you choose to give even $1 of it in Katarina’s name, you deserve to know that it is doing exactly what we promised it would do. To everyone who has donated in person or through JusticeForKatarina.org, you are doing amazing things right here in our own community.

You are helping kids participate at Red River Valley Athletics when their families may not otherwise be able to afford it. You are helping provide haircuts through Katarina Kindness Cuts for people experiencing homelessness. You are helping provide clean clothes through the Katarina Kindness Bubble for people in our community who are struggling and those are just pieces of what your kindness has made possible.

I need you to understand something:

You people are Kat’s legacy. 🌻

Every kid who gets to participate. Every person who gets a fresh haircut and feels human again. Every family who gets a little dignity back because they can wash their clothes.

That is her kindness continuing to exist in this world.

I originally wanted to make this into a video, but every time I try, I start ugly crying and become impossible to understand. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜ So, for now, this post will have to say what I apparently cannot get through out loud.

Thank you.

Thank you for trusting us.
Thank you for believing in what we are doing. Thank you for your donations, your shares, your support, and your compassion and most of all, thank you for helping us make sure Katarina’s kindness continues to reach people she never even had the chance to meet.

Words will never be enough to express how grateful I am.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping us turn unimaginable loss into love. šŸ’›šŸŒ»

Be like a sunflower. Be like Kat.

Say the quiet part day 6.

If addiction is an illness, where should personal accountability begin?

SERIES: day 5

Does forgiveness matter in your opinion?

Should forgiveness always be the goal, or are some people healthier when they never forgive?
