CWV Post 2016 Historian Stephen Leon spent a great weekend at the US Naval Academy with Catholic War Veterans friends from the Department of Connecticut. He gave a tour of the Yard (what a regular college would call the campus), before the group attended the Friday Dress Parade on Worden Field. On Saturday, they attended the Alumni football game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and watched a heartfelt loss to a tough Air Force team. Thank you, Commander Tom Voytek for the memorable weekend with your group!

During the weekend of May 20-21, 2023, CWV Post 2016 Commander Stephen Leon was blessed with the opportunity to spend time with three members of "The Greatest Generation."

On Saturday (05-20-2023), Stephen accompanied CWV Post 2016 Historian John Price, a 99-year old, WWII US Navy Submariner, to the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. (USSVI) observance of Armed Forces Day at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Pennsylvania. At the ceremony, Stephen and John were introduced to 101-year old, WWII US Navy Submariner Victor Mihal. John and Victor spent the afternoon getting to know each other and sharing memories of the their war experiences with the event attendees. Sadly, Victor passed away 10 days later.

On Sunday (05-21-2023), Stephen attended the CWV & Auxiliary St. Casimir Post 766 Bull Roast at Rosedale Gardens (Rosedale, MD), where he met the featured guest, 102-year old, WWII US Army Veteran Alva Coats, Jr.

This week, MSNBC presented a powerful story about the Quilts of Valor (QOV) Foundation, which started up in 2003. CWV Post 2016 has developed a partnership with a local quilter from the QOV guild, Helen Choma, who continues to craft quilts for our veterans, then Historian Stephen Leon arranges to present them in unique ways.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation, which provides quilts to service members and veterans touched by war, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Lori Thompson of Q...
