Michigan voters don't know how far behind the state really is vs. the rest of the country after 8 years of the Whitmer administration says a new poll.

📖 While voters think we’re mid‑20s on fourth-grade reading, we’re actually around 44th nationally.

💸 On per‑capita income, people guess high‑20s; the reality is 40th. Voters assume we’re middle‑of‑the‑road on college attainment at about 25th; the real figure is 39th.

It's going to be extremely cold for the next 5+ days, especially overnight. People and animals need shelter. There are options. Westland has warming centers during the day and the police station is 24 hours. Also as Westland Community News posted, Lighthouse is an option or hotel vouchers.

Urgent Homeless Help Is Avaliable

It's 10 degrees out (feels like -1) - It's only going to get colder over night. There are people sleeping outside right now! You can help in a couple of ways.

1) The Westland police will check on any homeless individual they get a call about or see while they are on patrol. If you see someone in need (or if you yourself are struggling with homelessness) you can contact the Westland Police Department at 734-722-9600 and ask in for a community police officer for further info. The Garden City Police will check on anyone too, call them at (734) 793-1700. Wayne Police 734-721-1414. Emergencies, call 911.

2) The Lighthouse on Palmer Road has an overnight Shelter. Checkin time we believe is around 8pm. They are an emergency shelter dedicated those who need some where to stay over night. They are located at 34033 Pamer Road at Full Gospel Church. Use east driveway.
