This week, our Board recognized the Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council and presented a proclamation for Wildfire Preparedness Month. Thank you to the Ventura County Fire Department, the Fire Safe Council, and residents across Ventura County who are taking steps to create defensible space, harden homes, and prepare for emergencies. Wildfire preparedness is a shared responsibility, and these efforts help keep our communities safe.

My office has received concerns from residents regarding a vendor operating along Somis Road. Community members reported that the vendor was serving food and improperly disposing of grease associated with the operation.

In response to these concerns, Ventura County Environmental Health conducted an inspection and issued a citation for violations observed at the site. The vendor vacated the lot. We appreciate residents who brought this matter to our attention and wanted to provide an update on the actions taken to address the issue.

I support local businesses and enjoy good food but businesses need to operate legally to protect the health and safety of our community. Ventura County is actively cracking down on illegal and unpermitted food stands and pop-ups through coordinated enforcement sweeps by local police, sheriff’s deputies, and the Environmental Health Division. These unlicensed vendors pose significant public health risks due to a lack of proper refrigeration, handwashing facilities, and safe cooking equipment.

Please stay safe and learn more about food safety and how to report issues at https://rma.venturacounty.gov/divisions/environmental-health/food-protection/.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is coming to Ventura County, helping put free books into the hands of young children every month. The program supports early literacy, and opens the door to lifelong learning—one book at a time. The Ventura County Library Foundation is working on raising funds to launch the program. Local families can join the interest list and support the cause at https://imaginationlibraryventura.com/.

It was an honor to celebrate Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County at today's Board of Supervisors meeting! For 40 years, they have been building more than homes—they’ve been building hope, stability, and stronger communities. Check out their story at https://youtu.be/j84AKrTtXxk?si=LeZY5N7vTarrmNYj.

On this D-Day anniversary, we remember and honor Robert “Bob” M. Taylor — a proud Camarillo resident, World War II veteran, and D-Day survivor.

Bob landed on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944, during one of the most consequential military operations in history. He later helped liberate Buchenwald concentration camp and lived a life defined by courage, service, and humility.

Although Bob passed away earlier this year at the age of 102, his legacy continues to inspire our community and our nation. Today, we remember his sacrifice and the sacrifice of all those who fought to defend freedom on D-Day.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸
