πŸ”₯ Graduation Weekend Grilling Safety πŸ”₯

As families and friends gather to celebrate high school graduation this weekend, grills across the community will be fired up for cookouts and parties. The Westfield Fire Department would like to remind everyone to make grill safety part of the celebration.

βœ… Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your home, deck railings, and anything that can burn.

βœ… Never leave a grill unattended while cooking.

βœ… Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from the grilling area.

βœ… Before using a gas grill, check the hose for leaks, cracks, or damage. A quick soap-and-water test can help identify leaks before they become a hazard.

βœ… Always open the grill lid before lighting.

βœ… Clean grease and fat buildup from grills and drip trays regularly.

βœ… Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it.

If you smell gas while grilling:
β€’ Turn off the gas at the grill and propane tank.
β€’ Move away from the grill.
β€’ If the odor continues, call 9-1-1 from a safe location.

Whether you're celebrating a graduate, hosting family and friends, or attending a backyard gathering, a few simple safety precautions can help ensure the only thing heating up this weekend is the food.

πŸŽ“ Congratulations to the Class of 2026, and have a safe and enjoyable graduation weekend!

πŸŽ“πŸš’ Throughout the past school year, several interns from local high schools had the opportunity to work alongside members of the Westfield Fire Department. We would like to thank them for their contributions to the department and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.

Chris Shea and Karly Bullock interned with the Operations Division. During their internships, they learned basic firefighting and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) skills alongside department members and had the opportunity to shadow both fire suppression and EMS companies during actual emergency responses.

Jack Kratochvil worked with our Repair Division, assisting the department's Chief Mechanic in maintaining the department's apparatus and physical plant. Through his internship, he gained valuable experience working with the specialized systems and equipment required to keep emergency vehicles in service and ready to respond.

The Westfield Fire Department is proud to support students exploring careers in public safety, emergency medical services, and skilled trades. We appreciate the dedication and enthusiasm these interns brought to the department throughout the school year.

Thank you, Chris, Karly, and Jack, and congratulations on your accomplishments. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors! πŸŽ‰

This June, the Westfield Fire Department is proud to celebrate the work anniversaries of two dedicated members of our team.

Behind every emergency response are individuals who have committed years of their lives to serving and protecting our community. They spend weekends and holidays away from their families, answer late-night calls, and continuously train to prepare for a wide range of emergencies. πŸš’

Please join us in extending our sincere gratitude and congratulations to:
