What is in the fugitive dust that is blowing from the i270/westerville rd industrial site? What are Columbus, Blendon Township, Huber Ridge, and Westerville citizens breathing in from the dust cloud that is forming today due to the strong winds blowing material off the large piles at the site?

Yes, the asphalt plant at 270 and Rt 3 in Columbus, Ohio, adj to Westerville and Blendon Twp, utilizes more than 50% recycled asphalt pavement (RAP). The Co. down there mills tons upon tons of old asphalt pavement that is brought to the site in truck loads. The RAP piles are huge mountains down there.

Furthermore, these huge RAP piles are adjacent to Alum Creek (a water of the state) AND a tributary that flows into Alum Creek.

Finally, the Huber Ridge public water supply is ~mile downgrade from this asphalt plant and the other emitting sources on this 109 acre industrial site in our community.

Stink is stink. Communities have sued and won regarding odor issues.

Neighbors of the Stony Hollow Landfill reached a proposed multi-million-dollar, class-action settlement after problems with smells.

As of Sept. 30, Ohio lawmakers eliminated a key legal tool used to rein in air pollution from power plants and industrial sites. Now, advocates are suing to restore that right.

Air pollution odors terrible this morning, Sat Nov 8, 2025.

Please submit a complaint with CPW and OEPA. These complaints are so important to helping us make our case for public comments in the spring.

Please comment here if you’ve smelled burning petroleum/exhaust/asphalt odors this week. Lately we have been smelling it weekends as well.

Please specify any ways the pollution is affecting your behavior (staying inside, etc) and/or your health (headache, etc).
