64 E. Walnut

In a Council-Manager form of government, it is the city staff's job to cultivate opportunities that align with our strategic goals then bring those opportunities to Council for consideration. That's where we are right now. Our residents have communicated several concerns with this plan including traffic, congestion, density, safety, timing, and communication. We will be grappling with some of these issues at Tuesday's Council meeting, located at the Justice Center starting at 7:00. I encourage our residents to participate in this opportunity and beyond for public input about this project. Your feedback matters to me and I take it seriously. Please leave comments if you have additional concerns you would like me to consider. If you have a question and would like a direct communication from me please email me at [email protected]. I am also available for a coffee chat. If you can't make the meeting Tuesday you can watch it on Westerville TV and you can email me with feedback or questions. I thank you genuinely for your engagement.

Update: May 11, 2026

We have updated the Project FAQ to address recent community questions. A few key clarifications regarding the 64 E. Walnut St. proposal:

The upcoming decision before the City Council is the proposed sale of the property. We apologize for creating confusion with our initial post. Any future development plans would be subject to a separate, extensive public engagement process.

City administration is recommending the sale of 64 E Walnut St. The next step is for the City Council to decide on the sale. They have not yet made a decision, and no sale has occurred.

*******************
As the City Hall Improvement Project nears completion, the City plans to sell 64 E. Walnut for redevelopment as prior City operations will now take place in a centralized location.

The proposed development includes a boutique hotel, restaurant, housing and parking structure that will expand public parking. The proposed project fulfills the City’s promise to reduce and consolidate the buildings used for local government services in the Uptown business district. The City previously facilitated the sale and redevelopment of the former post office (28 S. State St.) and Armory (240 S. State St) to introduce new amenities (High Bank Distillery and COhatch/North High respectively).

The City will present initial plans for the building's sale and redevelopment opportunities at two open houses. The first will be on Thursday, May 14 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at 64 E. Walnut.
