This is an important issue in Michigan that impacts people, especially in rural communities where farmland is desirable for utility-scale energy developments. Thank you Ottawa County for hosting this meeting to continue the conversation about how to navigate challenging decisions. I was thankful to see so many local elected officials actively engaged and participating in discussion. It is great to learn from each other.

We need to keep the young men and women who grow up in Ottawa County here long-term. It’s common for young people to live transiently, instead of being rooted in community and family. Home ownership is part of the solution.

“Ideally under 1,000 square feet… these homes would sell for less than half of the median price for an Ottawa County abode... and could realistically increase housing stock.”

This concept is still in the development phase, but the Housing Commission is preparing a strategy for a Small-Footprint Homes Development Concept in a local community. No, this doesn’t mean the government is building homes. The Housing Commission is getting creative in offering new solutions, that would have to be adopted by local units of government, home builders, and residents.

Excited to see more!

It’s a great day to rest and focus on God and family. Find something to be thankful for today! A heart of gratitude is the antidote for many of life’s ailments. God designed people to be in community and to meet regularly for worship and praise. Therefore, go to church! Even if you haven’t attended in a while. God promises to be there in a special way.

Happy New Year!

As 2025 comes to a close, we’re proud of a year defined by meaningful progress and growing impact for Ottawa County veterans.

This year included a historic milestone with July officially declared Ottawa County Veteran Month for the first time, along with 70+ outreach efforts, our first-ever Veterans Job Fair, service to over 200 veterans at the Second Annual Veterans Stand Down & Resource Fair, and the launch of Legacy Link to better support senior veterans and their spouses. These highlights represent only part of the work happening every day to strengthen veteran support across our county.

The momentum built this year is carrying us confidently into the new year and setting the stage for continued growth in 2026. Happy New Year!
