The West Odessa Volunteer Fire Department is proud to be on-site today at Cavazos Elementary School, 9301 W. 16th St., Odessa, Texas, supporting their Turkey and Canned Food Drive.

Our volunteers are here engaging with students, staff, and families as the school works to collect food for local families in need this holiday season. We’re grateful to be part of an event that brings our community together and allows us to serve outside of emergency response.

We appreciate Cavazos Elementary for welcoming us and look forward to continuing our commitment to supporting West Odessa through events like this.

Thanks to their incredible generosity, our West Odessa firefighters just wrapped up critical training at the Katy area rescue school. This donation means our team is better equipped and better trained to protect YOU and our community when every second counts.

Community partnerships like this save lives. Thank you, All American Chevrolet, for investing in West Odessa's safety!

“There’s relationships that we formed as a part of this response that will last a lifetime and if anything even remotely similar to what we’re dealing with, or any sort of incident where we needed a good, massive mutual aid (response) from outside of Ector County arose, have no doubt that we could call the people we’ve met here and they … would come running to help us,”

Odessans have come out in force to help in search and recovery efforts following the catastrophic flooding in the Hill Country. Ector County ISD Police, West Odessa Volunteer Fire Department, Odessa Fire Rescue and a myriad of other agencies have been deployed to help. At least 135 people were kille...

Final Deployment Update – Day 18
July 21, 2025

Today marks the official conclusion of West Odessa VFD’s deployment to Ingram, Texas. For 16 of the past 18 days, our team has had boots on the ground — first in the field, and later as part of the Incident Command Center — doing everything we could to support the flood response efforts in this incredible community.

This has been a long deployment. It has taken a toll on our team emotionally, mentally, and physically. But through it all, our six-member deployment team has remained strong, committed, and proud to serve.

We want to extend our deepest thanks to our members, our community, and to the Ector County Commissioners Court and County Judge Dustin Fawcett for your unwavering support throughout this mission.

From the very beginning — armed only with hand tools and water bottles — we began searching for survivors and victims in the flood zone. In the days that followed, some of our team transitioned into leadership roles within the Incident Command structure, helping coordinate the broader response. Today, we help demobilize that command center, closing out this chapter of one of the largest disasters our state has faced in recent memory.

This deployment has been more than just service — it’s been an invaluable experience for our department and for each of us personally. We’ve learned. We’ve grown. And we’ve built bonds with agencies and individuals that we now consider lifelong friends — people we know we can call on should West Odessa or Ector County ever face a crisis of this magnitude.

To the Ingram Fire Department and their community:
From the moment we walked through your doors, you welcomed us as your own. Your strength, resilience, and determination are unmatched. We are proud to have stood beside you and look forward to working and training with you in the future.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you.

A heartfelt thank you to Moon Shadow Haven in Mountain Home, TX.

During our recent deployment, this incredible venue provided free housing to our firefighters and other first responders. At a time when comfort and rest were badly needed, they welcomed us with open arms and gave us a peaceful haven in the heart of the Hill Country.

The property is stunning, the accommodations were top-notch, and the hospitality was unmatched. But what truly sets Moon Shadow Haven apart is the heart behind it — a deep appreciation for public servants and a generosity that goes far beyond expectations.

If you’re looking for a wedding venue, event space, or a serene getaway in the Hill Country, we can’t recommend them highly enough. They’ve earned a permanent place in the hearts of West Odessa VFD and will always be part of our extended fire family.

Thank you, Moon Shadow Haven. You didn’t just give us a place to stay — you gave us a place to heal.

These past two weeks have been incredibly difficult for the Texas Hill Country. While the recent catastrophic events have brought devastation to many, they’ve also reminded us of the strength and unity we share as a state.

We are beyond grateful that our venue was spared and has been able to provide housing for several First Responders during this time. Thank you to everyone who has stepped up and come through our doors to lend a hand.

Please continue to keep the affected families and individuals in your thoughts and prayers. 🤍

Ingram Fire Department, your strength and resilience have inspired all of us.

At West Odessa VFD, we were honored to answer the call during your time of need — but what we found was more than just a mission. We found brothers and sisters in service. The bond forged through hardship has created a lasting relationship, built on mutual respect, trust, and shared sacrifice.

You said it best: “We bend, but we will not break.”
There is profound wisdom in that. The strongest steel is not the kind that resists all pressure — it’s the kind that flexes, endures, and returns stronger.

Your department may have been pushed to the edge, but you’ve shown the heart of a community that will not fall.

You will always have our support.

Our team is out of the danger area but remains ready to assist. Our Captin has told us the the Ector County Ector County Constable Precinct 1 will be send a team down tomorrow to support operations with the Ingram Fire Department. West Odessa VFD stands with Ingram and the rest of the communities affected by this tragedy.

July 13, 7:55 a.m. Ground search operations are suspended at this time to flood danger. We will provide more information soon but for now, all search crews need to evacuate the river corridor until further notice. Any volunteer search parties in the Guadalupe River corridor need to heed this warning. The potential for a flash flood is high.
