🌊 📣
Hello West Haven!
So I have some news. I received a great opportunity at my company, but it comes with additional time demand and travel. I decided to accept, but that also means that unfortunately, it would take too much away from my council responsibilities including council meetings. When I was elected, I committed to give my all to serve in this position. So, I have decided it is best to step aside and pass the baton to someone to serve District 2 at the pace that it deserves. I could not be happier with the choice as voted by council last night - Ruby Melton! Her amazing credentials are only the beginning. She will be a wonderful asset to West Haven, the Council, and advocate for District 2!
I am honored to have had the opportunity to serve, and I thank those that elected me for District 2, Mayor Dorinda Borer, and everyone that has supported me.
In addition to my role as Personnel and Civil Services Chair, it has been a pleasure to serve on the Public Lands Committee, Legislative Matters Committee, Redevelopment Committee, Tax Deferral Committee, and as liaison to Planning and Zoning, as well as liaison to Economic Development Commission. Thanks to Christopher Suggs, Chairman of P&Z and Lalani Perry, Chairwoman of the Economic Development Commission for the invitation to contribute at each meeting.
Additionally, there are so many important projects, challenges, and opportunities in District 2 – some that only impact D2 residents, and some that impact the entire city – The site formerly known as the Haven, The former Debonaire site, former bait and tackle shop, The Conference Center, half of the beach and coastline for West Haven, the water treatment plant, the conference center, and several others.
I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Mayor Dorinda Borer, and to have had a front row seat to her leadership. In only the first year of her term, she has already accomplished so much of what needed to be done to strengthen the systemic foundation and function of this city that it will no doubt catapult West Haven into the success it deserves for many years to come. She works seven days a week.
I also want to sincerely thank my colleagues on the Council that have not only become friends, but mentors in different ways for their guidance and grace. I would like to especially thank our Chairman Nick Pascale, and our Majority Leader Christopher Vargo for their leadership and guidance. I have a tremendous respect for all of you. I can now speak from experience that for every item on the agenda, there is much research, consideration, and deliberation. Although, the award for the most research goes to Councilman Christopher Vargo, Jr. D-8 – not only does he love the church, his family, his cat, and bacon, he LOVES research. He has been a great asset whenever any of us have had any questions. I can attest that not only Councilman Vargo, but everyone on council does their due diligence and treats the responsibility of serving the best interests of this City with the gravity it deserves.
You never know what the future holds, and I will continue to do anything that my time allows to help in any small way. Thank you again for giving me the opportunity. This has been such an incredible experience for me, and I hope I have done those proud that had faith in me. I am so proud of the work that this administration and this council has achieved so far. May it continue to be led by service over ego, and people over politics. Again, I am grateful to have served this great city. Thank you all again! 🌊
