A big shout out to all of the 2026 West-Allis West-Milwaukee graduates!

Over the years, our 3 kids walked those very stages between Hale and Central. (2003-2022)

It is a joyous time to watch the young adults in our community have their send off.

A special thanks to all the educators for their dedication to the kids in our community.

โ„น๏ธThe More You Know...

โ“๏ธWhat does the term quasi-judicial mean and how does it apply to the Common Council and standing committees such as the one I Chair, Public Safety.

โš–๏ธQuasi-judicial refers to actions, proceedings, or bodies that resemble those of a court of law. These entities lack the full authority of a formal court but are empowered by law to hold hearings, investigate claims, and make legally binding decisions by applying existing rules to specific facts.

Core Characteristics
๐Ÿ”จApplying Law to Facts: Unlike a legislative body that creates new policies or laws, a quasi-judicial body acts like a judge. It takes established rules or ordinances and applies them to a specific situation.

Due Process:
Because the decisions affect the rights and obligations of specific individuals, these proceedings typically require "due process". This includes providing formal notice, holding a hearing, and allowing all parties to present evidence.

Judicial Review:
Decisions made by quasi-judicial entities are not final and can typically be appealed and reviewed in a traditional court of law.

Common Examples
Quasi-judicial authority is frequently exercised by administrative agencies, local government boards, and commissions.

2 examples that West Allis Committees and Commissions govern

Plan Commission

โ€ขZoning & Land Use: Local planning commissions or zoning boards deciding on a variance, conditional use permit, or a property-specific rezoning request.

Public Safety
โ€ขLicensing Boards: State or local agencies holding hearings to approve, suspend, or revoke a business or liquor license.

So in cases where the public DEMANDS ACTION, we have an important role to make sure all parties are treated fair, that we have an unbiased approach which in turn yields the best possible outcome which benefits the community as a whole.

Are you looking for a place to take your retired flag?

Eagle Scout Jonathon Clement created a Flag retirement drop box for the community to use.

The drop box is located outside of St. Paul's Lutheran Church on the southeast corner of 79th Lincoln .

It's important that our flag is honored, especially in retirement.

Thank you to both Boy and Girl Scout Troops as well as our local American Legioneers for their continuted commitment to our community.

Today I am posting with a lot of mixed emotions. I woke up to see this news and I can't wrap my head around it.

I am angry. Angry that we try so hard to keep our city, all who live here and visitors safe. We hear you when you share your concerns and we make every effort to be proactive.

I am sad. I am sad that a families life will be forever changed due to the fact that someone decided to disregard a state law..

WHY can't people get it? There is a damn crosswalk. YIELD TO PEDESTRIANS! It's the law. Yet a poor little 4 year old and his mother were hit while attempting to safely cross the street on 69th National Avenue.

Crosswalks, rapid flashing beacons, speed limits and strict penalties. These are some measures put in place.

Common sense to know it's your responsibly when driving that you know how to YIELD is lacking. At this point I feel it's a blatant disregard for others.

I am disgusted! People need to wake up and give a damn for someone other than themselves.

My prayers, and yes I said prayers, go out to this family. These precious lives matter. I do not know the condition of the mother and child but I pray they will recover.

This message isn't to bash the driver or condemn the population but it is AGAIN an EFFORT to implore people to know their RESPONSIBILITIES when driving a car.

I am sure the 25 year old will have a long road ahead of her to come to terms with the life long consequences. I say this with true conviction that I try to have empathy in all situations. This one is difficult for me to draw upon it.
