Happy Boo Bash Dash day Halloween is my favorite and today’s lineup of festivities in town is going to be fantastic. Good luck to everyone lacing up their running shoes for the races this morning, the participants taking on the Pumpkin Derby, and the brave competitors tackling the pie eating contest. To all the little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes trick-or-treating downtown today, have fun and stay safe!

A huge thank you to our downtown local businesses for opening your doors and supporting this great tradition. Best of all, today’s event directly benefits youth programs at the Wayzata Sailing Center, investing right back into our community’s young people.

Putting on an event like this takes an incredible amount of coordination. A special thank you to Judy Johnson and her entire team at the Wayzata West Metro Chamber for all their hard work bringing today’s festivities together. Finally, to our residents and neighbors and lake street businesses, thank you for your patience and understanding with the brief street closures and disruptions this morning.
Come on out, and enjoy the day in downtown Wayzata. See you there

Wayzata lost a true legend and dear friend with the passing of Bob Fisher. Most folks knew him as “Shoebob,” the owner and proprietor of Bob’s Shoe Repair at the Bay Center and later Colonial Square who loved to joke that he spent his career "Saving Soles and Heeling people." In 1996, Bob pitched a small tent in the freezing November cold in front of his house on Central Ave to help local families benefiting Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners. That simple, selfless act sparked the Sleep Out movement, ultimately raising tens of millions of dollars to prevent homelessness and lift up neighbors across our entire area.

To my family, Bob and his wife Terrisa were even closer to home. We lived directly behind them for over 10 years, our backyards facing one another. Catching up across the yard, hearing his stories, and sharing laughs was a constant reminder of the genuine neighborly spirit that makes Wayzata so special.

Bob was without question one of the greatest cheerleaders this town has ever had. He was endlessly positive, welcoming to everyone, and deeply proud of his community. Whether he was encouraging young people to give back, waving to everyone as Grand Marshal of the James J. Hill Days Parade or leading tours of the ballpark for the MN Twins. He would always take the time to truly visit and catch up with every single person who walked through the doors of Bob’s Shoe Repair, his warmth never wavered.

Our hearts and prayers are with the Fisher family, and the countless friends who loved him.

Service Details:

Visitation: Friday, October 23, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at David Lee Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life: Saturday, October 24, at 10:00 AM at Wayzata Community Church.

Memorials: Preferred to The Sleepout at Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners

Thank you, Bob, for your generous heart, your steady optimism, and a lifetime spent making our town better. You will be missed.

Wayzata lost one of the good ones. Kent Howe was the definition of a dedicated community servant. A true super volunteer, Kent gave decades of selfless service to the City of Wayzata (Local Government), serving on both our Planning Commission and Charter Commission right through 2025 at age 90. His thoughtful guidance helped shape the city we love today. He was also my friend.

A veteran Cold War military code breaker, devoted family man, and fixture at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and School. Kent brought warmth, humility, and dedication to everything he did. We owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude.

Visitation: Thursday, Oct. 22, 5–7 PM at Gearty-Delmore Chapel (Plymouth)

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, Oct. 23, 11 AM at the Church of St. Bartholomew (Wayzata), visitation one hour prior

Memorials: Preferred to Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners (IOCP)

Happy James J. Hill Days weekend, Wayzata! I want to give a special shoutout to my friend, Chace Anderson, for being named the Grand Marshal of this year’s parade an incredible honor and so well deserved!

I know getting around town is a lot tougher than usual this year with the ongoing highway construction alongside with Lake Street being closed for the festival. Thank you to all of our residents and local businesses for your patience and support as we host this wonderful community tradition.

Wishing everyone a safe, fun, and memorable weekend. Hope to see you out and about enjoying the festivities today and tomorrow!

On the 25th Anniversary at the 9/11 Memorial Grove in Wayzata - Honoring victims, survivors and first responders. In remembrance of Gordon McCannel Aamoth Jr., a beloved member of our community who perished on September 11, 2001 during the attack on the World Trade Center.

We will never forget their sacrifice, dedication and countless acts of bravery.

We remember all who were injured or perished, all volunteers and first responders who united to answer the call, and those who were touched by the events of September 11, 2001.

Today marks nine years since Officer William “Bill” Mathews was tragically killed in the line of duty on September 8, 2017. Officer Mathews served Wayzata and Long Lake with dedication, warmth, and integrity. As we remember his life and service today, our hearts remain with his family, loved ones, and colleagues in blue. We will never forget his sacrifice.
