What a privilege it was to spend the weekend at The Swag representing the Richard Haiman National Parks Foundation with my fathers namesake and grandson (his first name is Richard). The Friends of the Smokies do incredible things for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

We've made our funding commitments for 2014. We're very excited to place continued support with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There will be new back country privys as was support for Parks as classrooms. Also, we're supporting the ATC with their own Education programs to be rolled out in Virginia. Thank you to all of our supporters.

We're very excited about our projects for 2013. We've provided funding to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy for trail maintenance and upkeep. Those projects will be complete this summer. We've also continued our support of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park through the Friends of the Smokies. One of the projects is Parks as Classrooms which goes out into local schools to educate children on the natural resource they have in their back yard. We also donated to finish the back country shelter improvements. As of now we've been a party to the complete remodeling of all back country shelters in the GSMNP. Anyone who has stayed in the old shelters and the new ones fully understands how important this project has been.
