🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨 Washington Township Police are warning the community about a scam reported this morning involving callers pretending to be law enforcement.

In this case, the victim received a call from someone claiming to be “Lt. Clark” from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office about missing federal jury duty. The caller said the fines started at $400,000, but could be resolved by paying $33,000 in Bitcoin. The victim was also told by someone identifying as “Federal Agent Hawkins” to go to the bank, leave the phone and Bluetooth devices in the vehicle, and avoid alerting bank staff or local police would be called to make an arrest.

The scammer also texted the victim a so-called civil process manual, a Bitcoin payment page, and a fake arrest warrant containing the victim’s real personal information to make the story appear legitimate.

This is a scam. Do not send money, do not provide personal information, and do not follow instructions from unsolicited callers demanding immediate payment. Courts and law enforcement agencies do not call people to demand payment by phone or cryptocurrency for missed jury duty. If you receive a call like this and are unsure, hang up and contact your local police department directly to verify it.

Don't be a victim.... call us and ask us, we will tell you if it is a scam or not.
