Relay For Life - Greater Waukegan/Far North Shore June 18, 2016

Bevier Park (Waukegan) One person can make a difference. Now there are 5200 Relay events across the United States.

Nowhere is that more evident than with the story of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, which began in Tacoma, Washington. In the mid-1980s, Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Tacoma colorectal surgeon, wanted to enhance the income of his local American Cancer Society office and to show support for all of his patients who had battled cancer. He decided to personally raise money for the fight by doing some

thing he enjoyed – running marathons. In May 1985, Dr. Klatt spent 24 hours circling the track, going more than 83 miles and raising $27,000 to fight cancer. The next year, with the help of Pat Flynn the "relay" aspect was born, with 19 teams taking part and raising $33,000.

This a reminder about our event wrap-up party TODAY from 6-8pm at the Buffalo Wild Wings (3961 Fountain Square Place, Waukegan, IL 60085) here in Waukegan!

This is a casual come-and-go event, so stop in as you please! We'll have Relay goodies and information about our open volunteer positions. You can also turn in any post-event donations. Our Relay will receive 10% of the sales from our purchases at BWW and we'll have fundraiser flyers for everyone to use at wrap-up.
