ATTENTION TO ORDERS

Bravo Battery is back in the drill cycle after a couple months off to relax post-deployment, and with formation comes the perfect time to conduct a promotion ceremony for our soldiers who were eligible during our time off.

This ceremony was a special one, with one of our junior enlisted earning his chevrons and two of our NCOs moving up in the ranks. The ceremony also took place during our first Yellow Ribbon at the Stoweflake Resort in Stowe, VT, an event for service members and families to help the transition back into civilian life.

Our promotions this weekend included:
SGT Moccia
SFC Cahill
MSG Scribner

Congratulations to our leaders on these huge milestones, it’s always a priviledge watching our soldiers grow and excel!

WELCOME HOME!

Our soldiers from Bravo Battery have finally landed at home station after their deployment overseas. They’ve mobilized, trained, and executed the mission while traveling through 3 different states and 4 different countries over the last year.

After over 365 days of being away from their friends, spouses, children and more, our soldiers have finally made it home after a successful mission.

Help us congratulate all those in our battery who have served and sacrificed, and the rest of the 1-101st Field Artillery for an incredible year abroad.

Welcome home Bravo!🇺🇸

On Monday, 14 FEB, Bravo Battery soldiers and those from U.S. and allied coalition forces were awarded the German Marksmanship Badge as a result of the Schutzenschnur range competition held on 05 FEB.

Our soldiers received the honor of being pinned gold, silver, or bronze after a long day of learning, shooting, and socializing with our German allies here on post.

German soldiers also recieved awards for qualifying on the U.S. Army Weapons Qualification Course from the Bravo Battery Command Team.

Congratulations to all who earned this honor, and special thank you to those who spent time securing the range, personnel, and weapon systems to make this all happen.

Be sure to find your Bravo soldier among the ranks and congratulate them wholeheartedly for this outstanding achievement!

Happy Friday Friends and Family of Bravo Battery!

We are on the finale of Bravo Battery Soldier Spotlight, and what better way to end it than with our Battery Commander.

CPT Girard has been the Commander of Bravo Battery for almost two years and has led our soldiers through live fire, two annual trainings, long pre-mobilization classes, COVID-19, and now a full deployment. On tour, you can find him playing pitch with the 1SG, socializing with foreign coalition partners, hanging out at “Shady Acres,” or in his office hard at work implementing plans to support the battery.

Let’s see what our Officer in Charge has for us as the final remarks here on Soldier Spotlight!

Q: What's something interesting you've learned on deployment so far?

A: I think the most interesting thing I've learned on this deployment is how to integrate so many units into a nonstandard mission such as defending a multinational base. The most important thing I have learned about is communication. Whether it be internal running 24/7 operations (which poses a huge challenge in itself), or communicating to multiple echelons on operations and what each level cares about, or communicating with different nations and the cultural/ language barrier that poses.

Q: What has been your favorite aspect about this tour so far?

A: My favorite aspect is learning about the cultures of many other nations. We have made many friends, and experienced a lot of different customs with our coalition partners. Drinking tea with Kurds, eating schwenker with Germans, sports with the Dutch, hanging with the Finnish in their Sauna, and many more experiences. It's like living at a weird version of Epcot for 9 months.

Q: What's a message youbwant to give to your family and friends back home?

It's been a rough year for all of us, and it is almost over. I am sorry I missed so many firsts with my son Gunnar, and left my wife Jess with many sleepless nights worrying about our home, Gunnar, and sometimes me. Jess is my hero for the resiliency and hard work she's shown this year. I can't put into words how much I love her for what she does for me, and it's hard to believe she still loves me after the ass pain that comes with being my wife. She's the best. Thank you to my parents, brother, in laws, and all the rest of my family who has helped keep things going back home, the support has been unbelievable. Finally, thank you to my friends. Chris Karnolisz, Jess's wife friends, and many more have been there checking in and helping however they could and I am forever grateful. I will be home soon.

Remarks:

“Commander's comments to the families (because I'm the boss and get to do what I want)

Since we are so close to the end I wanted to take a minute to thank the families and soldiers of B Btry.

Families, thank you for supporting your soldiers, each other, and me throughout this year. You all are the most important part of all of us, and your unwavering support has been a blessing. I am forever grateful to you all for the superb people you handed over and went without through important milestones, family gatherings, holidays, and every other day.

This Battery makes me proud every day. We are constantly commended on how professional and competent we are, and that is a direct reflection of the soldiers.

Each soldier has done their part to make this mission successful. Chris Cozadd, and Keith Hunt have acquired so much to help the battery by making friends with others on base. Codie Wardwell, Lindsay Collins, Brendan MacNeil, Durane Scribner, and Will Cahill have worked with our Base defense partners and gained their trust in a way no other battery could. Josh Smith has constantly advocated for the soldiers and took care of them administratively. All our command post, operations center, and gun personnel have rose to the occasion and done an outstanding job. Without a team like this we couldn't have done so well.

We've had great times and hard times, laughter and tears, and loved and hated each other. This group is truly special, and I again thank all the families for giving up their loved ones for a year. We've taken good care of them, and hopefully we are handing them back to you with mostly good memories and funny stories of their time with us.

Finally, I want to thank 1SG Seth Wilkinson for his constant support and friendship over this time. His mentorship for the decade we've been together has been outstanding. He has wanted to punch me in the face so many times this year for being stupid or being a jerk, and I'm thankful he hasn't. He is an incredible NCO who truly loves and cares for all our soldiers like no one I've ever seen. We are all lucky to have him with us.”

Well Bravo, that’s all we have for Soldier Spotlight here overseas. As always, we appreciate all of your support and encouragement, and our soldiers are very eager to end this journey and come home to see you real soon!

Happy Monday Friends and Family of Bravo Battery!

How did you enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday? No matter Rams or Bengals, our soldiers made the best of the game enjoying live feeds around our compound and at the USO, plenty of snacks, pizza, and being in the company of friends! This will be our last week of Soldier Spotlight, and what better way to end it off than with our command team.

First up this Monday is our First Sergeant/NCOIC 1SG Wilkinson. 1SG Wilkinson has been with the battery for several years and has been an integral part of how our soldiers have developed and grown in their time with Bravo. On tour, you can find Top playing pitch, paying visits to the gun line, dominating trivia at the USO, or hard at work in his office providing the best support for his soldiers.

Let's see what our First Sergeant has to say on this episode of Soldier Spotlight!

Q: What is something interesting you've learned on deployment so far?
A: Not so much learned, my exposure to the Soldiers in this environment has reinforced my faith in their resiliency. They are as tough as their perception by others outside our formations. Their strength in their duty, their commitment to their beliefs, and their mindfulness of their surroundings and dedication to each other is inspiring.
Q: What has been your favorite aspect about this tour so far?
A: My favorite aspect has been caring for the needs of my Soldiers along with having the opportunity to work alongside many Coalition Nation forces from several countries.
Q: What's a message you want to give to your family and friends back home?
A: Make sure the beer is cold, we'll all be home soon.

That wraps up this segment of Soldier Spotlight! Stay tuned throughout this week to see an awards ceremony, our last holiday overseas, and the final highlight of our Battery Commander here on tour.

Happy Monday Friends and Family of Bravo Battery! We will be postponing the spotlight posts until further notice, but for now we’ll be revelling in some morale opportunities our soldiers got to partake in here on site!

On Saturday, 05 FEB our soldiers had the privilege of participating in another Schutzenschnur range competition for the German Armed Forces Badge of Marksmanship hosted by our German coalition allies.

They were tested on tactical operation and intellect in firing the G36 rifle and P8 pistol. This qualification course is rarely offered in the U.S. for our service members, so having this opportunity offered in theater made it that much more special.

Our soldiers are highly appreciative of coalition and morale opportunities offered to us, and thank those who lend us their consistent support.

Stick around this week to see our coverage on how our soldiers will celebrate our next big event (SuperBowl LVI!) and the Schutzenschnur awards ceremony for all Bravo Battery qualifiers.

Happy Friday Friends and Family of Bravo Battery! We are highlighting our final team to wrap up Bravo Battery Soldier Spotlight here oversees: Command Headquarters.

Starting off our leadership spotlight is our XO (Executive Officer) 1LT Abotsi, who takes "running away from your problems" to a whole new level. When he's not directing logistics operations or overseeing shops, he's running (or rucking) marathons and half marathons all around post. 1LT Abotsi is a proud member of Bravo Battery 1-101st FAR as a prior Fire Direction Officer and Battery XO. He also enjoys volunteering at our USO here on FOB facilitating fun events for US and coalition partners alike. With his guidance, our soldiers have consistent moral support and a solid foundation for boosting morale (and PT!) throughout the battery.

Let's see what our XO has to say on this episode of Soldier Spotlight!

Q: What is something interesting you've learned on deployment so far?
A: I've learned how to play new games such as pitch, corn hole and poker. I have also learned how to push my body and have full control of mind by running 5 marathons and 8 half marathons.. I am currently training for an ultra-marathon this month!
Q: What has been your favorite aspect about this tour so far?
A: Spending time with my soldiers.
Q: What's a message you want to give to your family and friends back home?
A: I miss and love you all.. looking forward to seeing you soon. Thanks for all your love and support.

That's all for this week! Check in on Monday to see what our Battery First Sergeant/NCOIC has for us here on Bravo Battery Soldier Spotlight.

DUSTOFF

This morning, EOC Battle Captain 1LT Collins and weapons crew-member SPC Elrick had the incredible privilege of joining the CASEVAC aviation team during a joint training exercise conducted here overseas.

The exercise entailed maneuver techniques, joint task force coordination, and an opportunity for the two to hang out with the aviators and enjoy the ride. For both soldiers, this was their first time riding in a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, and what a memorable first time it was!

We always appreciate any opportunity offered by our coalition partners stationed with us, and look forward to the connections and friendships we will continue to build through the Army in the future.

Happy Monday Friends and Family of Bravo Battery!

This week wraps up our last crew within the Battery Command Post: the Medic team. First on the roster is SPC Philaphandeth (also known as Phil) hailing from 1-181 HHC. SPC Phil has been a necessary asset to our medical quarters in regards to minor injuries, COVID-19 testing, illness, and much more. With any questions or concerns, SPC Phil is always there with the care and consideration needed to help our soldiers stay healthy, happy, and strong!

Next is our leader of the crew who also serves as 1st Battalion's head medic for the 101st FAR, SGT Hagman. SGT Hagman has been a well-known soldier of Bravo Battery for his diligence, wealth of knowledge, and goofy and personable nature. He has been a viable asset to us while overseas in common care, as well as liaising between coalition forces and higher headquarters to get the critical care needed for our soldiers.

Without our medics and the work they have put in for us over the course of this tour, we would lack the strength, stability, and resources we currently have with their constant support.

Let's see what our medics have to say on this episode of Soldier Spotlight!

SPC Philaphandeth:

Q: What is something interesting you've learned on deployment so far?
A: I've earned a lot in the medical classes I got to take at role 1 (coalition medical center).
Q: What has been your favorite aspect about this tour so far?
A: My favorite thing so far has been the tour I got of the local hospital here, and I'm excited for our upcoming Schutzenschnur!
Q: What's a message you want to give your family and friends back home?
A: I can’t wait to see you all and celebrate when I get home!

SGT Hagman:

Q: What is something interesting you've learned on deployment so far?
A: I've learned that time away from loved ones for any extended period of time is very difficult and I miss everyone back home. Also, when thinking of our current location, I never pictured I would be shivering in a tent having COVID and getting snowed on!!
Q: What has been your favorite aspect about this tour so far?
A: My favorite thing so far on this tour was during Christmas time when we did Santa-swaps and I gifted something to one of my friends in the EOC (2LT MacNeil) that my fiancé knitted him. I would say what it was but I don't think it's allowed, it was funny though!
Q: What's a message you want to give your family and friends back home?
A: Thank you to everyone back home for supporting me and overloading me with care packages. I wouldn't be sane without you!

That's all we have to kick off this week on Soldier Spotlight. On Friday, we'll be moving into Command HQ, so stay tuned to see who our spotlight shines on next

“I can’t believe she’s telling us to SMILE🙄”

Good Afternoon Friends and Family of Bravo Battery, happy Friday! This week's spotlight shines on another Battery Command Post crew: the Supply and Logistics team.

This team consists of two valuable NCOs to us who exhibit diligence, innovation, and selfless service to the battery. SGT Alkinburgh, a proud member of Bravo Battery 1-101FAR, serves as our facilities/maintenance NCO and is always on call should our soldiers need him. He specializes in housing area maintenance, including but not limited to, liaising between housing contractors, fixing broken locks and leaky faucets, and executing special projects to make our living quarters truly feel more like home.

Our head of the logistics team is our Supply NCO SSG Hunt, hailing from the 572 BEB E Co Det 1. SSG Hunt has done an outstanding job in learning the intricacies of general supply and mobility in a deployed environment as a 19D (Cav Scout), and learning how to operate in a Field Artillery unit as well. Without his work, our battery would not be as organized or prepared as it has been coming into this deployment, and in preparations for returning
to home station. Let's see what our NCO leaders have to say on this Friday's episode of Soldier Spotlight!

SGT Alkinburgh:

Q: What is something interesting you've learned on deployment so far?
A: There aren't enough trees here.
Q: What has been your favorite aspect about this tour so far?
A: Receiving packages from home with Lipton Iced Tea!
Q: What's a message you want to give your family and friends back home?
A: Can't wait to see you all when you pick me up!

SSG Hunt:

Q: What is something interesting you've learned on deployment so far?
A: The two biggest things I've learned on deployment are anything to do with supply in the Army is more complicated than it needs to be, and the structure of an FA unit makes no sense what's-so-ever if you come from any other unit in the Army.
Q: What has been your favorite aspect about this tour so far?
A: I've had the pleasure of meeting a fantastic group Soldiers and making some life long memories.
Q: What's a message you want to give your family and friends back home?
A: I would like to say thank you to all my friends and family back home that have taken time to help my wife and son while I'm away, and to also thank my wife and son for being understanding and patient while I get my last deployment in before I retire.

That's all for this week, tune back in on Monday to see our next crew highlighted for the month of January here on Bravo Battery Soldier Spotlight!
