UPDATE – June 5, 2026
The Washington Police Department has tentatively identified the human remains located on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in the 900 block of Carolina Avenue as those of 66-year-old Washington resident Patrick Michael Kincade.

Evidence collected during the processing of the remains and the surrounding area led investigators to this preliminary identification. Mr. Kincade had not been reported missing. His next of kin has been notified.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. The identity of the deceased will be definitively confirmed through additional forensic testing.

The Washington Police Department is working closely with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and Dr. Christopher Wolfe, Assistant Professor and Forensic Anthropologist with the East Carolina University Department of Anthropology. All agencies involved worked collaboratively to process the scene and advance the investigation.

The Washington Police Department would like to recognize the outstanding work of our Patrol Division in quickly locating and apprehending the suspect referenced in the Martin County Sheriff’s Office release below.

Shortly after the BOLO was issued, our officers responded to the area of 15th Street and Pierce St, where they located the suspect suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers acted swiftly and professionally to secure the individual and ensure he received immediate medical attention.

This rapid response highlights the dedication, awareness, and teamwork of our patrol officers, as well as the strong partnership between surrounding agencies. Incidents like this demonstrate how effective communication and coordination can lead to the quick apprehension of violent offenders and help keep our communities safe.

Martin County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Paradise Lane Shooting Incident

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 25, 2026

On April 24, 2026, at approximately 11:30 pm, deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a reported shooting on Paradise Lane in the Williamston area of Martin County. While deputies were en route, the call was upgraded to indicate multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male victim in a neighboring yard with a gunshot wound. Officers with the Williamston Police Department arrived shortly thereafter to assist. Law enforcement personnel entered the residence and discovered two adult female victims, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Additional family members inside the home were safely removed and determined to be uninjured.

Multiple EMS agencies and fire departments responded to the scene to provide emergency medical care and to establish landing zones for medical helicopters. All three victims were airlifted to ECU Health in Greenville for treatment. At the time of this release, their condition is unknown.

The victims have been identified as:

A 22-year-old female resident Williamston.
A 26-year-old male resident of Williamston.
A 21-year-old female resident of Murfreesboro.


Witnesses at the scene provided information that led to the immediate identification of a suspect and suspect vehicle. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was issued by Martin County Communications to surrounding law enforcement agencies. As a result of the investigation, three counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with Intent to Kill have been obtained against the suspect.

Shortly after the BOLO was issued, the Washington Police Department responded to the area of 15th Street and Perkins Lane in Washington in reference to a male subject with a gunshot wound. The individual was identified as the suspect and was subsequently airlifted to Greenville for medical treatment. The suspect vehicle was later located abandoned in the roadway.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been requested to assist with the ongoing investigation.

There is no active threat to the public at this time.

This investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Our officers enjoyed spending time with these bright young students, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at what we do each day to keep our community safe. From learning about police equipment to asking some great questions, this group kept us on our toes!
