The City of Washington is proud to announce the promotion of Jacob Barfield to Public Works Director!

Jacob brings a strong combination of municipal experience, leadership, hands-on operational knowledge, and a proven commitment to getting results. Since joining the city in June 2025 as Assistant Public Works Director, Jacob has served as the department's second-in-command, supervising the Public Works team and taking on Director-level responsibilities including daily operations, personnel, procurement, and project oversight.

Prior to joining the city, Jacob gained valuable leadership and operations experience in the private sector, managing teams, improving processes, and overseeing large-scale operations. His education and certifications in landscape design, construction, nursery/greenhouse operations, and UKG further complement his experience. As an U.S. Army veteran, Jacob also brings the discipline, accountability, teamwork, and leadership that come from his military service.

Jacob's work ethic, leadership abilities, operational knowledge, problem-solving skills, and dedication to serving our community make him well-qualified to lead the Public Works Department.

We are excited to see Jacob step into this new role and look forward to the experience and leadership he will bring to the City of Washington!

💧Water Conservation Request 💧

Last night’s lightning strike damaged equipment at the Alexander Dr. water tower, causing the tank to empty. Our crews are monitoring the system, and service is expected to remain stable.

As a precaution, we ask all customers to conserve water today by limiting non-essential use, such as lawn watering and car washing.

We appreciate your patience and will provide updates if needed.
