From migrant worker to business owner in rural Ethiopia 🐝

With little land to farm, Kifle Kirba once traveled in search of work to support his family. Through Ethiopia’s IDA-supported Productive Safety Net Program, he received training in modern beekeeping and support to build a small business.

Today, Kifle manages 12 modern hives, produces about 140 kilograms of honey a year and has regular customers. He is also expanding into bee sales.

His story shows how livelihoods support can help rural families build sustainable sources of income and create a path toward greater economic independence.

Lisa brings extensive experience across the World Bank Group and has helped advance some of IDA's most important financing and partnership innovations. Throughout her career, she has worked to strengthen collaboration with development partners and expand the resources available to support low-income countries.

In her new role, she will lead work to mobilize IDA resources; manage partnerships including trust funds, financial intermediary funds, and co-financing; and accelerate the organization's innovation pipeline.
