Some stories deserve to be told more than once.

This Purple Heart Day, we pause to recognize the minority Veterans whose courage under fire forever changed their lives, and our nation’s history.

Their sacrifices are woven into America’s story, and their legacies continue to inspire future generations.

As our CMV community continues to grow, we’re proud to reshare this tribute to remarkable minority Purple Heart recipients.

Learn about these remarkable Purple Heart recipients and join us in honoring their service.

For Navy Veteran Michael, coming home from Vietnam marked the beginning of another difficult journey. He struggled with isolation, depression and relationships before deciding to reach out to VA for support.
Through therapy, poetry and reconnecting with his Pueblo culture and the natural world, Michael began to better understand his experiences and find balance in his life.

Watch Michael share how VA care helped him move forward, rediscover his purpose and begin writing a new verse in his story.

After joining the U.S. Navy at age 18, Michael felt changed by his deployment and realized he wanted to do more with his life. After he reached out to VA for help, attending group therapy and writing poetry helped him work through his challenges and find balance in his life.
