La’Kisha Cole | Lung Cancer Survivor | Faith Over Fear
When you hear the word cancer, most people think death sentence. I am a fourteen-year lung cancer survivor. Out of every 14 people diagnosed with lung cancer, I was the one who beat it—by the grace of God, my faith, and the prayers of my family and friends. In 2011, doctors told me I needed emergency surgery to remove a tumor from my left bro
nchial tube. If the tumor had been any lower, my entire left lung would have been removed. After leaving the doctor’s office, I talked to God. I told Him I was scared, but I also told Him I chose to live. On the day of my surgery, doctors said I would be in the operating room for 4–6 hours. I didn’t reach recovery until late that night. Less than 24 hours after surgery—with tubes in my side and pain in my body—I heard a voice telling me to get up and walk. Every step I took was a reminder that the enemy did not win. The doctors removed all the cancer and saved my lung. No chemotherapy. No radiation. What was supposed to take 1–2 years to heal was completely healed in just five months. My doctor said he had never seen anything like it before. I told him, “Then you don’t know my God.”
I share my story to remind others that faith is powerful, healing is possible, and your diagnosis does not define your destiny. If God can do this for me, imagine what He can do in your life.
