I spoke on the House floor about how I am grateful that under the pro-growth agenda of President Donald Trump, and backed by Republicans, Governor Henry McMaster, Speaker Murrell Smith, and Senate President Thomas Alexander, South Carolina is one of the fastest growing states in America, driven by the creation of jobs and affordability. South Carolina’s gross domestic product is $393 billion, increasing by $26 billion since the current Trump administration. Promises Made, Promises Kept.

For 250 years, America has fought to defend personal freedoms for each citizen. I spoke on the House floor about how, sadly, socialism is gaining popularity among Americans, particularly those in the Democratic Party and younger voters. Socialism puts government in control, replacing faith, families, and small businesses, destroying jobs. America must defend free enterprise, private ownership, and freedom over control, not defend big government.

Roxanne and I join Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook, the Columbia Police Department, and the community in offering our prayers to the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Christopher DeLong. Our thoughts are also with Officer David Dymock as we wish him a speedy recovery. God Bless the men and women of Law Enforcement who put their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe.

An officer and the suspect have died after a shooting at a Columbia park, authorities announced at a press conference Aug. 29. Another officer present at the incident remains in stable condition.

I enjoyed attending the Rotary Club of Aiken meeting this week and hearing from Mark Ward, organizer of the Aiken Walk to End Alzheimer’s. I am grateful to be a cosponsor of the ASAP Act, which would require Medicare to cover FDA-approved tests for early detection of Alzheimer’s. We must continue supporting research focused on prevention, early detection, and effective treatments to help improve the lives of those affected by this disease.

We must never forget the August 26th, 2021, Surrender in Afghanistan, one of the most disastrous military and foreign policy mistakes in American history. Sadly, 13 brave U.S. service members were killed after successfully preventing resurgence of terrorism for 20 years. Biden capitulation to the Taliban has made Afghanistan a safe haven for terrorists, putting all Americans at risk. Today, we remember the lives lost, and the sacrifices made for our freedom and safety in America.

On this day in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed legislation creating the National Park Service. We thank all of those who maintain and protect the natural, beautiful, and historic sites of our great nation. South Carolina is proud to be the home of Congaree National Park, and many other National Park Service properties. Happy 110th anniversary to the National Park Service.

Enjoyed a delicious breakfast with Directors Blake Amick and David Grookett, as well as other members of the South Carolina chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). The NAIFA is the leading affiliation for the Palmetto State’s financial professionals and the only insurance and financial association with a grassroots network advocating at the state, interstate, and federal levels.

Grateful to join South Carolina Adjutant General Major General Robin Stilwell, other officials, and family members in welcoming home soldiers and personnel with the South Carolina National Guard from their deployments overseas. God Bless these brave men and women who keep us safe.

Grateful to participate in a discussion with Politico Bureau Chief and Senior Political Columnist Jonathan Martin during Washington Night in Columbia. This annual event brings South Carolina's business community together with federal policymakers for an evening focused on the top issues coming out of Capitol Hill that impact the state's businesses and economy. The talk was sponsored by South Carolina Manufacturers & Commerce, the largest business association in the state.
