He was absent from a recent community meeting about rural healthcare and data centers, is currently refusing to debate Tom Perriello, and when he does show up somewhere its so unusual that media call it a “rare appearance.” Why are you hiding, John McGuire?

“We are not only here to save democracy. We are here to upgrade it. It’s software.”

DC’s lack of full political power is a human rights violation according to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and this country’s choice to disenfranchise people in its capital city directly mirrors the efforts now underway to disenfranchise millions of voters across the country.

This week Ward 1 Team Co-Chair Abi joined Nobel Peace Prize laureates and fellow youth leaders from around the world at the ’s “Democracy on the Brink” Summit in Oslo to discuss ways to build a stronger international network for democracy at a time when authoritarian forces are on the rise. Hear their stories in the video here.

Repost : Ahead of the Nobel Peace Conference 2026, 14 young democracy activists from Kenya, Nepal, Serbia, Brazil and the United States came together at the Nobel Peace Center for a week of sharing experiences from their home countries and meet Nobel Peace Prize laureates.

Despite coming from very different political contexts, they recognised many of the same challenges: threats to free and fair elections, political exclusion, digital surveillance and declining trust in democratic institutions.

The conversations throughout the week pointed to a common idea. As , an activist from Kenya, put it: “We are not only here to save democracy. We are here to upgrade it. It’s software.”

The next 61 days are do or die for democracy in this country. Trump is in the process of trying to steal the midterm elections and if he succeeds, his violent agenda will get much worse. If he stop him and demand democracy instead, attacks on DC will stop and we will usher in a new era of power.

We have the power to shape which of those options becomes our future.

A new flier is appearing around metro stations promising a “pathway to citizenship” for individuals who join the National Guard. It’s dangerous and immigrant justice leaders encourage people to stay away from it.

The same regime that is destroying legitimate pathways to citizenship, tearing families apart, and gutting jobs in other fields will never offer us safety from those threats.
