This morning, I joined University of Nebraska Medical Center - UNMC for the ground breaking of their new Infectious Disease Air Transport facility. I’m proud to have secured $12 million in federal investments for the construction of this facility, and I thank everyone for their help to get it done. Congratulations!

This week, I visited the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island. It’s an event I've loved since childhood for its 11 days of concerts, livestock shows, exhibits and food. It is truly the best of Nebraska.

No trip to the State Fair is complete without Nebraska beef, so one of my first stops had to be the Beef Pit. There, I caught up with fairgoers and members of the Nebraska Cattlemen over lunch. I enjoyed a new addition to their menu — a delicious burnt end sandwich.

I also enjoyed seeing the new babies in the Birthing Pavilion and participated in a milking parlor demonstration with Senator Ricketts and U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.

Afterwards, we headed to the pig barn for Senator Ricketts’ Federal Issues Forum. Secretary Rollins participated as well — I was pleased to have her in Nebraska once again to hear directly from our state’s ag producers. I appreciated this timely opportunity to speak about the challenges facing our farm economy.

Our producers are rightfully concerned about the recent announcement about importing foreign beef. This is a topic I’ve heard much about from ranchers and producers across the state this summer. We need long-term solutions to rising beef prices at the grocery store. We must grow our nation’s cattle herd to meet demand. And we owe it to American producers to enact policies promoting certainty, stability, and markets to sell their products.

As a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, I also wanted to update the crowd on the latest status of the Farm Bill. In Washington, I’ve been pushing a bipartisan Farm Bill that actually serves rural America. That includes permanent year-round E15 for our biofuels industry and my Precision Ag Package, both of which I fought hard to include in this bill.

Democrats voted against advancing it, but I'm not giving up. We must get the Farm Bill passed.

I also acknowledged how this year has tested our state in painful ways. The wildfires that tore through Nebraska this spring were the worst in our history, burning more than 800,000 acres. After touring much of the damage and meeting with first responders and producers who lost so much, I wanted to push even harder for my legislative solution to make recovering miles of fencing and grazing land less burdensome.

So, when I returned to Washington after seeing the devastation, I immediately asked the Senate to pass my Emergency Conservation Program Improvement Act, legislation that speeds up federal cost-sharing after disasters and gives producers more flexibility as they rebuild. I'm proud it passed unanimously and is now law. It won't fix everything, but it means farmers and ranchers — in Nebraska and beyond — have a little more stability when disaster strikes.

After talking ag policy, I stopped by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Nebraska State Patrol booths to thank our veterans and law enforcement officers for their service. Then it was time for ice cream — a favorite fair treat on a very hot day.

But what I appreciate most about the State Fair is running into old friends and meeting new ones. That's what this tradition does best: bringing Nebraskans together. I was grateful to be a part of it again this summer.

Thanks to President Trump, biofuel volumes are at record highs — a win for Nebraska producers. Reallocating SRE volumes in 2026 and 2027 is critical to keeping demand strong, and I’m grateful the administration is reaffirming its commitment to American farmers. I look forward to bolstering our biofuel industry, including securing year-round E15, to provide producers greater certainty and families lower costs at the pump.

This significant investment in Runway 18/36 at the Lincoln Airport is great news for both commercial aviation and our national security. I’m looking forward to seeing the runway fully rebuilt and ready to serve Nebraska for decades to come.

Whether it’s caring for our nation’s veterans, helping a neighbor in need, or defending our freedom, Nebraskans understand the importance of serving those around them. Over the past several days, that commitment was on full display across our state. I was proud to witness and share the spirit of service that makes Nebraska so special.

To begin the week, I celebrated the groundbreaking of a new Gathering Place facility. The Gathering Place has served Lincoln for more than four decades, offering hot meals to hundreds of residents every evening. The current facility is a century-old house with a 120-square-foot kitchen, which is in desperate need of an upgrade. I’m excited to see the additional lives they will touch once their new space is finished.

Next, I met with the Rare Disease Legislative Advocates to discuss legislation advancing access to rare disease treatments and cures. I was proud to cosponsor the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act and the Give Kids a Chance Act, which were both signed into law earlier this year. Today, over 30 million Americans suffer from one of 7,000 rare diseases. I know we can count on Nebraskans to continue advocating for those who need it most.

I also had the privilege of being at Offutt Air Force Base, home of U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM), with the Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, and Senator Pete Ricketts. After a tour and discussion, I was honored to take part in a troop re-enlistment ceremony. These brave individuals renewed their commitment to serving our country and defending our freedom - a commitment that reflects the dedication of everyone serving at STRATCOM. Secretary Hegseth underscored just how critical their mission is to our national defense. Much of their work happens quietly, far from the public eye, but their service keeps Americans safe every day. I could not be prouder that Offutt calls our state home, and I am grateful Secretary Hegseth joined us for this special occasion.

But our appreciation for servicemembers should not end when their duty is complete. We owe it to our veterans to provide quality healthcare and benefits.

That’s why I was pleased to welcome the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Doug Collins, to Omaha to visit the VA Hospital and Sarpy County Clinic. I appreciate Secretary Collins for taking the time to meet with VA staff, who work tirelessly to assist our veterans. It was especially meaningful to join him in presenting coins of recognition to hardworking VA healthcare providers. Nebraska’s best is reflected in these men and women who dedicate themselves to our veterans.

Last week was a reminder that service takes on many forms, but each is rooted in a commitment to improving the lives of others. It is a commitment I will continue to carry with me as I represent Nebraskans in the U.S. Senate.
