Today, May 24th, is National Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Day! We want to express our gratitude to AMTs worldwide for their dedication, expertise, and hard work in keeping our skies safe. From conducting pre-flight inspections to performing complex repairs, AMTs work tirelessly behind the scenes, often around the clock, to ensure that aircraft remain in peak condition.

This day also commemorates the birthday of Charlie Taylor, the first aviation mechanic, who built and maintained the engine for the Wright brothers' inaugural powered flight. His groundbreaking work established the foundation for the essential role that AMTs play in ensuring the safety and reliability of every flight we take.

Happy National Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Day!

For over a century, the NAA has had the honor of documenting the finest achievements in aviation. During , we look back at the incredible stories of valor and teamwork that define our military flight crews.

From the historic early flights of Chuck Yeager to modern-day tactical operations—like the AC-130J "Shadow 77" crew who logged a record-breaking 16-hour nonstop solo operation over Kabul— military aviators who have consistently redefine what is possible in the skies.

Every year, the NAA proudly awards the Clarence Mackay Trophy for the most "meritorious flight of the year" by an Air Force person or crew. It is a reminder that behind every aviation record is a team of dedicated professionals serving their country.

To all past and present members of the U.S. military: Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your continuous dedication to pushing aerospace forward.
