Today marks 14 years since DACA first opened doors and opportunities for hundreds of thousands of young people who know America as their home.

For 14 years, DACA recipients have strengthened our communities, contributed to our economy, powered our workforce, started businesses, and raised families. They have enriched our nation in countless ways while living with uncertainty about their future.

DACA recipients have done everything asked of them and more. They came forward, passed background checks, and placed their trust in a promise that they could build their lives in the country they love. Fourteen years later, they are still waiting for Congress to act.

Their futures should not be defined by uncertainty or political gridlock. They deserve the stability, security, and opportunity that come with permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship.

Today, we celebrate the contributions of DACA recipients and recommit ourselves to building an immigration system that reflects our values, respects the dignity of immigrants, and recognizes that America is stronger because of them.

Donald Trump is spending MILLIONS on a UFC fight while Americans struggle to afford food, gas and healthcare. Let that sink in.

Congratulations to Wenqing Lu, a sophomore at Oak Park High School and winner of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for California's 26th Congressional District!

Wenqing's winning piece reflects the remarkable creativity, talent, and artistic vision of students across our region. Art is a powerful form of expression that allows young people to share their perspectives, experiences, and ideas, and I am proud of every student who participated and shared something meaningful through their work. Competitions like this are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our community's up-and-coming artists and the unique voices they bring to the world.

Wenqing's artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year alongside winning entries from congressional districts across the country. I am proud that visitors to the Capitol will have the opportunity to experience her creativity and talent as they walk its historic halls.

From the very beginning of this conflict, Democrats have fought to advance a War Powers Resolution to end Donald Trump’s unauthorized and reckless war in Iran.

Today, after weeks of unnecessary delay, the House finally passed this urgent resolution to reassert Congress’s constitutional authority and push back against Trump’s unlawful escalation toward a broader regional war. The American people have opposed this reckless conflict from the start, and they should not be forced to bear the human, economic, and national security consequences of a war driven by political grievance and impulsive decision-making rather than strategy or diplomacy.

Donald Trump has offered no credible objective, no defined timeline, and no serious plan to prevent further escalation. Military force cannot substitute for principled American leadership, sustained diplomacy, and a clear strategy to prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East. Congress must act to restore accountability before more servicemembers and innocent civilians are placed in harm’s way.

I urge the Senate to immediately pass this War Powers Resolution and send a clear message that no president has the unilateral authority to drag the United States into another prolonged and unnecessary war.

Instead of providing the steady leadership and reassurance our troops deserve during an active conflict, Pete Hegseth has chosen to wage a political and ideological war inside the Department of Defense. His relentless attacks on the military’s apolitical, merit-based promotion system are dangerous, disgraceful, and fundamentally un-American.

Hegseth has fired, sidelined, marginalized, and effectively demoted accomplished women and servicemembers of color who have dedicated their careers to defending our country. It is deeply offensive that one of the most unqualified Defense Secretaries in modern history feels entitled to undermine military leadership decisions not based on readiness or performance, but because of political grievance and personal bias.

This is blatant racism and misogyny that elevates mediocrity at the expense of meritocracy. These servicemembers earned their ranks through service and sacrifice, and they deserve to be recognized and respected for their leadership.

We must restore integrity, fairness, and professionalism at the Department of Defense and reject this dangerous effort to turn our military into a partisan instrument of Donald Trump’s agenda.

Pride Month is a celebration of authenticity, community, and resilience. It is a time to recognize the LGBTQ+ community and the countless ways LGBTQ+ people strengthen, enrich, and help shape our nation.

As we celebrate the progress we have made toward equality, we must also continue working to build a more inclusive future where every person is valued, respected, and free to live openly and proudly as their true selves. Today and every day, I am proud to stand with LGBTQ+ individuals and families throughout Ventura County and across the country.

Summer should mean road trips and camping weekends — not doing math at the pump.

Trump’s war of choice is costing families an extra $128 a month to fill up the tank.

The Trump administration has repeatedly invoked “waste, fraud, and abuse” to justify cuts to programs that help people meet their basic needs. This latest attack on California’s In-Home Supportive Services program is no different. There is nothing wasteful about helping seniors and people with disabilities remain safely and independently in their own homes, yet the administration has cut more than $1 billion in Medicaid funding that supports that very care.

More than 900,000 Californians depend on this program to stay out of nursing homes, and more than 500,000 caregivers help make that independence possible. Home-based care is not only the right thing to do, it is also significantly more cost-effective than institutional care. These cuts are not about fiscal responsibility. They shift costs onto families, undermine access to care, and threaten the health and well-being of some of our most vulnerable neighbors.

Seniors, people with disabilities, and their caregivers should not be forced to pay the price for a decision that will increase costs, weaken care, and make it harder for vulnerable Californians to remain in their homes and communities.

In the midst of a military conflict, Donald Trump sent Pete Hegseth to campaign against his political enemies. While rising gas prices continue to place an undue burden on everyday Americans, Sean Duffy is airing a reality TV show about his family’s road trip. And the abuse of power does not stop there.

Trump’s Justice Department recently announced the creation of a $1.8 billion slush fund paid for with Americans’ tax dollars to benefit the president’s political allies, including violent Jan. 6 insurrectionists. This is a brazen abuse of power that once again demonstrates Trump’s contempt for our democracy, his disregard for the rule of law, and his willingness to put political loyalty above public interest.

Trump and his cronies have proven time and again that they care little about keeping our communities safe or making life more affordable for working families. Instead, they remain fixated on rewarding their political allies and enriching themselves at taxpayers’ expense.
