Future Civic Leaders Future Civic Leaders (FCL) is a 501c3 non-profit, non-partisan organization that empowers high-school Our Programs have a proven record of success.

Our Flagship programs are our residential and non-residential Civic Leadership Conferences. These programs train students in the skills they will need to make tangible, sustainable changes in their communities. After each one of our conferences, students are asked to complete an exit survey, which demonstrated that as a direct result of our program, our students are:

82% more interested in pursui

ng higher education, studying Government or Politics

94% more interested in Politics as a result of the program

91% more interested in working on a political campaign

71% more interested in running for elected office

89 % more self-confident

97% more comfortable speaking in front of others

While other organizations focus on lectures and textbooks, Future Civic Leader’s unique model for civic education brings students into a collaborative community environment and demonstrates, first-hand, the importance of active civic participation.

Great group of evening speakers. Future Civic Leaders got to hear from Scott Evertz (Former Director of the White House office of Aids Policy under President George W. Bush). Scott walked them through the ins and outs of policy making.

Students then heard from the DC Director of Funny or Die, Brad Jenkins! He talked about how we can use new technology and community voices to make change!

It was on this day in 1789 that George Washington placed his hand on a bible in New York and became the first President of the United States under our Constitution – setting another of many traditions still in use today.

Technically, some may argue, Washington wasn’t the first “president” in the United States.

The first president of the Continental Congress in 1774 was Washington’s close friend and Thomas Jefferson’s cousin, Peyton Randolph. After Randolph, various members of the Continental Congress and the Confederation Congress acted as the presiding officer, or president, of these meetings.
