The Voter Participation Center

The Voter Participation Center These Americans make up 53.5% of the voting-eligible population and are responsible for almost all of the U.S. The VPC was formerly known as Women’s Voices.

The Voter Participation Center (VPC) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to helping underrepresented communities register, vote, and make their voices heard in our elections. The Voter Participation Center (VPC) is a research-driven, non-profit and non-partisan organization dedicated to increasing the participation of unmarried women and other historically underrepresented groups

in our democracy. The mission of the VPC is to boost the civic engagement of unmarried women (women who are single, widowed, divorced or separated), people of color and 18-29 year olds—the three demographic groups who comprise the Rising American Electorate (RAE). population growth in recent years, but were only 48% of the electorate in 2012 and 45% in 2014. The VPC is committed to registering and mobilizing these voters during elections and public policy debates at levels that reflect their growing demographic strength and importance. The RAE is the fastest growing demographic group in America accounting for 82 percent of population growth between 2000 and 2014. But their electoral and policy involvement has not kept pace. That is why the VPC conducts groundbreaking research and develops and implements effective registration and mobilization programs and innovative approaches to help millions more unmarried women, people of color and young people become active participants in our democracy. The VPC is committed to year-round civic engagement that builds an infrastructure of citizens who take an active role in ensuring a representative democracy. The work of the VPC does not end with Election Day, it is just beginning. Women Vote (WVWV). The name was formally changed in 2011 to reflect how the organization has expanded its focus beyond its original emphasis on unmarried women to include the entire RAE. Unmarried women make up a large portion of the RAE and marital status is a top determinant of whether or not one registers, votes, and participates; the name change also was adopted because the same approaches used for unmarried women also work across the entire spectrum of the RAE.

Enough is enough.

The courts must step in and block this unprecedented and illegal takeover of state election administration. The President’s order is a massive federal overreach, and voters are the ones who will be paying the price for this power grab.

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., has declined to temporarily block President Trump's executive order that calls for restricting mail-in voting. Another judge may rule on the order soon.

In Louisiana v. Callais, the Supreme Court dealt the Voting Rights Act its gravest blow, making it practically impossible to enforce the landmark law’s prohibition on racial discrimination.

Congress must respond. It has the power to do so.

A ban on partisan gerrymandering, codified voting rights protections, and Supreme Court reform can mitigate the fallout.
