The Committee extends our heartfelt thanks to all supporters, volunteers, and donors who helped the Recall Charles Allen campaign push our local leaders to focus on public safety issues in Ward 6 and our city.
Though we fell short in our signature drive, our efforts shifted the Council’s conversation, resulting in a revised DC crime bill, increased police presence, and renewed attention to public safety. We also challenged the sense of invincibility around Council elections, particularly Charles Allen’s, who remains affronted that Ward 6 citizens dared to oppose the lenient crime policies he supported. What Allen dismisses as a “waste of time,” we see as democracy in action.
Despite significant challenges, including harassment from Allen’s supporters and the difficulties of accessing apartment residents post-redistricting, we persevered. We’re filing a complaint with the Board of Elections, requesting that our initiative be placed on the ballot due to the absence of a Council-mandated electronic signature-gathering app.
More importantly, we’ve built a strong database of thousands of committed citizens ready to ensure public safety remains a priority for all elected officials. We’re here to support other groups concerned with public safety and the recall process.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT. We look forward to continuing our work to ensure safe neighborhoods for all.
