On Friday, I was pleased to participate in the investiture ceremony for my former intern, Ryan Kriegshauser, in his role as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Kansas. I have had the opportunity to know Ryan well over the years, and I advocated for his nomination and supported his confirmation by the U.S. Senate. He has devoted many years to serving our nation as a Navy Reserve officer, including a deployment to Afghanistan, and he also served as a member of my Service Academy Selection Board, helping to invest in the next generation of young Kansans interested in military service.

Congratulations to Ryan and the entire Kriegshauser family. I’m confident he will perform the duties of this office with the same character and commitment he has demonstrated throughout his career. I’m grateful for Ryan’s willingness to serve the people of Kansas, and I know he will make a meaningful difference in the lives of Kansans through this role.

We honor the life of Senator Nancy Kassebaum, a trailblazer who put the well-being of Kansans first. Her pioneering role as the first woman to represent our state in the U.S. Senate perfectly reflects the Kansas spirit. She was one of a kind, and she will be remembered among the greats who served the people of our state so well.

Senator Kassebaum’s time in public service embodied the institution of the U.S. Senate at its best. I campaigned for her in western Kansas during her first election in 1978, as well as the campaigns that followed. She was never afraid to challenge me in our conversations, but she was always a friend and encourager. She was deeply respected across our state, and Kansans remain grateful for the way in which she represented us with such intelligence and integrity.

Robba and I are keeping her children and the entire Kassebaum family in our thoughts as they mourn this loss. The legacy of the U.S. Senate, the well-being of our nation and, most significantly, the future of the state of Kansas are brighter because of the impact Senator Kassebaum had throughout her life. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will never be forgotten.

It was great to be in Kansas City today to place the final beam on the brand-new KU Cancer Center building alongside the leadership of The University of Kansas Cancer Center , The University of Kansas Health System and The University of Kansas. This state-of-the-art facility will bring world-class cancer services to the region, creating the very best opportunities for Kansans and Missourians to access cancer treatments and care right here in the Heartland. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I have secured $115 million in federal resources to construct this facility and to purchase cutting-edge technology to equip it. These investments are helping to expand access for all Kansans to the most advanced cancer care, while solidifying our state’s role as a leader in the fight against cancer.

I have had a dream for our state since before I was elected to the U.S. Senate: that the Kansan who likes science, engineering and research has an opportunity to fulfill their educational potential, build a career and raise a family right here in our state. This project is one of the most consequential efforts I know of to increase the opportunity for Kansas to be a place for people who want to engage in science, research, engineering, mathematics and innovation. It gives them a place to call home, build a career and raise their family. That is a good thing for our state, and I’m pleased to see the progress being made at the KU Cancer Center.

I had a great visit to Lane County Community Grocery Inc. in Dighton this week. This store, which opened in June of this year, is a community-driven initiative built through the efforts of local residents. After a fire destroyed the only grocery store in the county in 2024, the community faced limited options for purchasing food. In response, members of the community came together to establish a grocery store to provide convenient and reliable access to food while also supporting the local economy.

Through their generous donations and volunteer work, the people of Lane County truly embody the spirit of serving their neighbors. I am grateful for their dedication to strengthening their community. Special thank you to Store Manager Randy Evans, Staff Member Chad Lawrence and community member Jeff Schmalzried for taking the time to visit with me.

On Tuesday, I joined Great Plains Manufacturing to announce the production of the Kubota SVL 75-3 compact track loader in Salina. This expansion is great news for the community and a testament to our strong and skilled workforce, and it will bring more jobs to the local economy. I visited Kubota’s headquarters in Japan two years ago and emphasized to its leadership team the benefits of building in America – particularly in Kansas. Our manufacturing workforce is second to none, and I’m pleased by Kubota’s decision to expand its presence in our state.

I enjoyed visiting Thunder Ridge High School in Kensington this week and touring the campus with the Senior Leadership Team. The students did an excellent job sharing how Thunder Ridge is preparing them for a successful future.

On , we celebrate the engineers, manufacturers and pilots across our state who are advancing Kansas’ role as a global leader in aviation. You can’t think of aviation without thinking of Kansas, and our state remains the Air Capital of the World thanks to generations of Kansans who have built, innovated and advanced the field of aviation.

From Amelia Earhart’s trailblazing flights to our role as an aviation hub during WWII to Wichita’s recent recognition as the #1 city for aerospace and defense manufacturing investments, Kansas’ aviation heritage continues to support global advancements.

Last week, Kansans welcomed Artemis II astronauts Commander Reid Wiseman and Mission Specialist Christina Koch to Hutchinson, along with NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, to see firsthand how the Cosmosphere is inspiring the next generation and advancing U.S. leadership in discovery, innovation and exploration.

Once again, the Artemis II crew confirmed what they've told me before: the Cosmosphere is the best space museum in the world. 🚀🌎

It was great to be in Colby on Thursday to announce a partnership between The University of Kansas Cancer Center and Citizens Health. Access to quality health care is vital for our rural communities, which is why I’ve worked to make certain that Kansans continue to have access to quality cancer care and treatments. Earlier this year, I secured the final $46 million of the $115 million in federal investments to build and equip the new state-of-the-art KU Cancer Center. The partnership announced last week, made possible in part through the Rural Health Transformation Program, will help to make certain the breakthroughs in research and treatments at the new KU Cancer Center translate directly into care for patients in northwest Kansas under the leadership of Citizens Health. Most importantly, it will support cancer patients and their families when they need it most, right in their own communities.

U.S. Senator Jerry Moran joined leaders from Citizens Health, The University of Kansas Health System and The University of Kansas Cancer Center to announce a new collaboration bringing expanded access to specialized cancer care to Colby, KS, and the surrounding area.

“Cancer touches all of us in some way, and fighting it requires access to effective treatment, screening, and prevention,” said Sen. Moran. “Earlier this year, I secured the final $46 million of the $115 million in federal funding to build and equip the new state-of-the-art KU Cancer Center. The partnership announced today, made possible in part through the Rural Health Transformation Program, will help to make certain the breakthroughs in research and treatments at the new KU Cancer Center translate directly into care for patients in northwest Kansas under the leadership of Citizens Health. I am grateful to the leadership of Citizens Health, The University of Kansas Cancer Center, and The University of Kansas Health System for their efforts in bringing specialty cancer care services close to home for rural Kansans.”

The new collaboration will offer access to specialty cancer care in collaboration with the current cancer care program, starting first with two physicians who specialize in melanoma and genitourinary cancers, such as prostate cancer. This will expand in the coming months to include physicians who specialize in lung, head and neck cancers, and malignant hematology followed by breast and gastrointestinal cancers.

“Today, Citizens Medical Center provides quality general cancer care to the region and this will continue. This new collaboration will allow expanded access to specialty cancer care through The University of Kansas Cancer Center and allow for our teams working together, keeping care close to home for patients and their families,” said David McCorkle, CEO of Citizens Health. “This is critical for rural communities throughout Kansas as we continue to identify new ways of delivering care in a changing healthcare landscape.”

Physicians from The University of Kansas Cancer Center have joined the medical staff of Citizens Medical Center, providing a seamless approach to care supported by an experienced APP and nurse navigators on site, and leveraging telehealth capabilities.
The collaboration is unique in several ways, including those critical components of a cancer care plan for specialty care needs – imaging, infusion and other aspects of treatment plans - will happen in Colby rather than requiring patients to travel long distances for these needs. In addition, treatment plans coordinated by The University of Kansas Cancer Center physicians have been built in Citizen Health’s electronic health record which are based on current standards of care and evidence-based research.

“Cancer is a deeply personal and life changing diagnosis for patients and their loved ones,” said Jack Beal, senior vice president of cancer services for The University of Kansas Health System. “Kansans should be able to navigate their cancer journey close to home, with access to the state’s most advanced specialty care resources at The University of Kansas Cancer Center. We believe this collaboration with Citizens Health, made possible by their leaders’ commitment and infrastructure investments, will change cancer care in the region and become a model for rural health.”
To support this collaboration, Citizens Health and The University of Kansas Cancer Center identified infrastructure needs to ensure a seamless patient experience. These include investments in construction to ensure necessary space, lab expansion, changes to electronic records programs to work seamlessly across both organizations and hiring an experienced APP and nurse navigators to support this care on a daily basis.

Grant funding from the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) helped support growth of oncology care at Citizens Health, including updated diagnostics tools, support for community health workers and advancements to the medical record and pharmacy platforms needs to support patients.
