The American Campaign for Prevention of Child Abuse & Family Violence dba National Council on Child Abuse & Family Violence (NCCAFV) - helping America's families prevent child abuse and neglect, spouse/partner abuse aka domestic violence and elder abuse. Monday, 24 January 2021

Our Story

The American Campaign for Prevention of Child Abuse & Family Violence, also-known-as (aka) the National Counc

il on Child Abuse & Family Violence (NCCAFV) is incorporated in California as a 501(c)(3) all volunteer, non-profit, non-sectarian, non-governmental organization headquartered now in Arlington, VA (P.O. Non-profit IRS Tax ID: 95-4356014

Family Violence Exists Intra-generationally Within Far Too Many Families
in the form of:

1) Child abuse and neglect,

2) Spouse and partner abuse (also known as domestic violence), and

3) Elder abuse and neglect and economic exploitation. Our work addresses the physical, mental and emotional well being of vulnerable individuals of all ages within America's homes and families. Child Abuse and Neglect:
More than 2.5 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States annually with hundreds of deaths related to child abuse reported each year. Child abuse occurs through four primary categories: physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect. Most runaways, adolescent prostitutes, and teenage delinquent’s report having been victims of some form of child abuse, and it is reported that a majority of violent criminals suffered abuse, either physical and/or sexual as children. Abuse robs children of the opportunity to develop healthy, trusting relationships with adults, contributes to low self-esteem, and impairs healthy psycho-social development. Spouse/Partner Abuse aka domestic violence:
Spouse or partner abuse is commonly termed "domestic violence". While it is a crime that is perpetrated by both genders, it is a crime whose victims are primarily women and often children. It is a crime that annually leaves 3 to 4 million women in the United States battered by their husbands or partners. It is a crime committed every 15 seconds, according to some estimates, with a woman and possibly her children, being victimized, most often in the one place where they should feel safe...the home. The prevention of spouse/partner abuse is dependent upon national, community and individual efforts. It must begin with a national awareness of the problem and education toward understanding how such violence affects women and children in our society and by supporting organizations like the American Campaign of the National Council. Elder Abuse and Neglect
Elder abuse and neglect is an often unnoticed yet growing problem in the American culture. With the advancements in medical science contributing to the elongation of the life span for larger numbers of men and women, the challenge of ensuring safe, healthy, productive lives for the elderly grows. The number of older persons in American society is increasing, with the number of persons over the age of 85 growing faster than the elderly population in general. Between 1.6 and 2 million older Americans become victims of abuse or neglect in domestic and institutional settings each year. Victims of elder abuse and neglect often live in isolation where their limited physical capacity, fear, and increased vulnerability compound their sense of loneliness, leading to a decline in their physical, emotional, and mental health. Many of these victims suffer in silence, fearful of what will happen to them should the abuse become known. How You Can Help
Now in its 37th year as a national, volunteer, nongovernmental organization, NCCAFV and its American Prevention Campaign serves all fifty states and U.S. Territories as a resource center on family violence prevention initiatives and provides assistance referrals to individuals needing help by community violence prevention services. Because its entire expert staff are pro bono (unpaid) volunteers, every dollar contributed to the American Campaign provides the maximum impact for individual victims and families.

We are at the midpoint of Child Abuse Prevention Month in April of 2023 which was first held in 1980, 43 years ago. Much has been accomplished but new forms of abuse arise in child gender exploitation that are concerning to many prevention advocates.

We are open and working from our homes - the incidents of family violence are increasing in so many multigenerational families as they attempt to be (and remain) at home together.

Many people have no choice but to be in close quarters with those who may make them feel emotionally or physically vulnerable.

Already there are reports of increased child abuse & neglect, spouse/partner abuse or domestic violence, and elder abuse & neglect under the lockdown conditions of this coronavirus pandemic.

As usual, the people on the receiving end of most of this are children and women, who are running into pharmacies shouting code words.

If you know anyone who is vulnerable to violence in their home, take a moment to check in with them by phone or text or email to assure them by offering support in any way they may feel is helpful, including checking in with them again ONLY if your contact doesn't add to their vulnerability.

Thank you for any help you can give them and thank you for your critical financial support as we continue to work during this difficult time.

As we are now entered into 2023. I need to post a brief word about the National Council and its American Campaign for Prevention of Family Violence i.e. child abuse and neglect, spouse/partner abuse (domestic violence) and elder abuse and neglect within families:

After serving as an unpaid volunteer and leader of this income tax exempt organization for 39 years, I can say that this coronavirus pandemic has become the greatest challenge in all those years to our organization's financial survival.

We carry on the work every day, only as unpaid volunteers can individually, and we are truly grateful for your encouraging support as you are able and inclined to give while perhaps experiencing your own personal financial challenges.

I have a sense of certainty that our current circumstances are ultimately in God's hands. None of us know what the future holds, but we can know Who holds the future. God bless you in this new year with every blessing of health and happiness!

Dear Friends and Donors,

Please forgive my failure to address you personally, but this email is being sent to you on an urgent basis.

If you have not made a contribution as this pandemic continues, we ask you to do so now. Your support will enable us to fulfill our mission to provide services that prevent intergenerational family violence: child abuse and neglect, spouse/partner abuse, and elder abuse and neglect.

Five hundred children die each year from abuse and at least half of all child abuse fatalities are children under one year of age. Domestic violence will occur at least once in two-thirds of all marriages. One out of every twenty older Americans are victims of elder abuse but only one out of ten cases of elder abuse get reported.

In 2020-21 and beyond, the American Campaign for Prevention of Child Abuse and Family Violence will continue its growing outreach to victims, families, students, churches, libraries, schools, and civic groups. We will also continue to provide capacity building training and technical assistance to nongovernmental, nonprofit community agencies in the United States and its Territories to better prevent child abuse, spouse/partner abuse and elder abuse.

You may be interested to know that, as an independent, private sector, nonsectarian, nongovernmental, nonprofit organization, no grant support is sought or received from any federal, state or local government source by the American Campaign. We depend on the financial support of individuals across America donating through private sector workplace campaigns as well as individual government employees, including our U.S. military service men and women, who generously donate as individuals through the Federal Government’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC # 10361).

Dear Friend of the American Campaign,

Please forgive our failure to address you personally, but this message is being sent on an urgent basis to you as a friend of the National Council's American Campaign for Prevention of Child Abuse and Family Violence (www.preventfamilyviolence.org).

As the threat of this Coronavirus continues to increase and children remain at home because of extended school closures in much of the nation, the AMERICAN CAMPAIGN FOR PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE AND FAMILY VIOLENCE needs generous supporters like you who can answer the call for contributions during this critical time of at-home vulnerability for many children and families.

If you have already made your donation, thank you for helping make our critical services possible! And, please consider making an additional gift if you are able to do so.

If you have not made a contribution yet, we ask you to do so now. Your support will enable us to fulfill our mission to provide services that prevent intergenerational family violence: child abuse and neglect, spouse/partner abuse, and elder abuse and neglect.

Did you know that domestic violence (spouse/partner abuse) is reported in more than 50% of investigations by public authorities into child abuse?

• Five hundred children die each year from abuse and at least half of all child abuse fatalities are children under one year of age. One out of every twenty older Americans are victims of elder abuse but only one out of ten cases of elder abuse get reported.

• In 2020, the American Campaign for Prevention of Child Abuse and Family Violence must continue its growing outreach to victims, families, students, churches, libraries, schools, and civic groups. We will also continue to provide capacity building training and technical assistance to nongovernmental, nonprofit community agencies in the United States to better prevent child abuse, spouse/partner abuse and elder abuse.

• Our certified audit of financial statements document that 95% of your donations provide direct Prevention Services and only 5% is needed for management and fundraising. The small percentage allocated to management and fundraising is a reliable indication that your donations go directly to the American Campaign's prevention programs.

• You may be interested to know that, as an independent, private sector, nonsectarian, nongovernmental, nonprofit organization, no grant support is sought or received from any federal, state or local government source by the NCCAFV or its American Campaign. Your financial help was never more important than now -

Unless government, funders and nonprofit leaders take immediate and decisive action to help nonprofits during the coronavirus outbreak, many nonprofits around the nation may just disappear over the next few months leaving those they serve and employ in disastrous circumstances, writes John MacIntosh
