September is Student Parent Month!
We’re kicking off the month by reflecting on a powerful message shared by Generation Hope DC Scholar Carla Rocha at HOPE 2026.
“GH taught me the value of shared experience. I loosened my grip on solitude and felt the comfort of connection.”
Carla’s words speak to an important truth: student parents should not have to navigate college, parenting, and the many responsibilities that come with both on their own. As Carla shared in her speech, asking for support does not diminish a person’s value.
Parenting students, like many families, are working to build a stable life for themselves and their families. When we build communities where people can seek and receive support with dignity, we create stronger pathways for student parents to continue striving for the economic stability we all long for.
Throughout Student Parent Month, we’ll celebrate the experiences, accomplishments, and contributions of student parents while highlighting the people, programs, and systems that make their educational journeys possible.
Follow along throughout September as we celebrate student parents and share more of their stories!
