Washington National Cathedral

Washington National Cathedral Here at the Cathedral, we strive to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with God. This is a house of prayer for all people.

Washington National Cathedral is a house of prayer for all people, conceived by our founders to serve as a great church for national purposes. The Cathedral holds a unique place at the intersection of sacred and civic life. As the Cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, we strive to serve God and our neighbors as agents of reconciliation, a trusted voice of moral leadership and a sacred

space where the country gathers during moments of national significance. The Cathedral is built to inspire: a national treasure and Gothic architectural feat standing at the highest point in Washington, DC. Inside, artwork and exhibits tell the American story of faith. Outside, the 59 acres of gardens and grounds provide a beautiful sanctuary. Above all else, the Cathedral is a place for spiritual enrichment. Whether you visit for a tour or tower climb, worship service, concert, pilgrimage, or insightful program—all are welcome. To learn more go to http://www.cathedral.org/visit/

"Since the founding of this nation, we have seen systematic attempts to undermine the many rooms of our collective home that God has prepared for us. From the institution of slavery to Jim Crow segregation to counter Reconstruction, redlining, to the erasure of elements of our shared history, and now the dismantling of the Voting Rights Act. This exclusion is not just political but theological. It is telling a child of God that there isn't a room for their voice in the house we have built together. By devaluing their inherent divinity, these acts of exclusion stand in direct opposition to the open and inclusive heart of a loving God."

"When you feel yourself being pulled in divisive sort of ways, hold fast to the core teaching of Christ - that God loved us enough to send us Jesus so that we would know the way, the truth, and the life. Love generously. Stay open. Be humble. As our former Presiding Bishop Michael Curry always says, if it's not about love, it's not about God."
