HSEMA welcomed its Summer 2026 intern cohort this week - six emerging professionals selected from more than 500 applicants, joining the agency at one of the most consequential moments in the District’s recent history.

Over the next two months, the cohort will work alongside HSEMA staff as the District prepares for America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, manages a summer of major special events, and coordinates with federal, city and regional partners across dozens of activations.

HSEMA looks forward to the perspectives these professionals bring and the work ahead.

DC HSEMA is hiring an IT Bureau Chief!

The IT Bureau Chief owns strategic direction, governance, and operational delivery of the agency’s technology portfolio – systems architecture, infrastructure, information security, and customer support – with one overarching goal: leading the technology team and investments to directly advance the mission to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from emergencies.

That means defining the agency’s long-term technology roadmap, directing major system implementations and platform migrations, and keeping the 24/7 fusion center environment running. It also means partnering across DC government, including the Office of the Chief Technology Officer, and with regional and federal partners to resolve complex system issues and ensure continuity of critical business functions.
