NATIONAL: According to a report from The New York Times, the White House reversed a directive on Wednesday that had frozen potentially trillions of dollars in federal grants and loans.

The initial order had caused widespread confusion as organizations sought to determine if their federal funding was affected, impacting crucial programs such as Medicaid serving millions of low-income Americans.

The directive's disruption reverberated across various sectors, with schools, hospitals, nonprofits, research companies and law enforcement agencies left scrambling to ascertain the status of their financial support from the federal government—as reported by various news outlets.

A federal judge in the District of Columbia issued a temporary block on Tuesday, following a lawsuit by liberal organization Democracy Forward. The New York Times reported that the judge's order would remain in effect until at least October 18th.

They argued that the directive violated the First Amendment and protocols for rolling out executive orders.

Matthew J. Vaeth, the acting director for the Office of Management and Budget, informed federal agencies on Wednesday that the memo freezing aid had been rescinded. In a notification, he encouraged agencies with questions regarding the implementation of the President's executive orders to consult their agency general counsel.

Join us on December 21st, 2024 for the 12th Annual Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day as we honor the lives lost to homelessness in Washington, D.C. This powerful observance and vigil will take place on the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. It’s a time to reflect, remember, and recommit to ending homelessness.

As we remember those lost, we reflect on their humanity—the fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters who didn’t have to die on the streets. Their names will be heard, and their stories will live on.

This year’s program will include:

A reading of names of individuals who died in D.C. without housing in 2024.
Remarks from local faith leaders and community advocates, including Donald Whitehead (Executive Director, NCH) and Rachelle Ellison (PFFC).

A community meal, fostering solidarity between housed and unhoused neighbors, organized by People for Fairness Coalition.
