Today tipped workers in DC are receiving their first of two pay raises in 2023, from $5.35 to $6.00 The next pay raise is scheduled for July 1, 2023 and will increase to $8. HAPPY MAY DAY! According to the DC Council’s Legislative Information System, Initiative 82 was transmitted to Congress on January 10 and is projected to become law March 8, 2023. This means, as long as Congress maintains their current legislative schedule, on March 8, tipped workers in DC will get a 65¢ pay increase to $6 per hour. Now that the election is over, and passed, all campaigns have 30 days to remove their signs from lamp posts around the city.

Help us out! If you see one of our signs, take it down. You can either throw it in a recycling bin, or keep it as a souvenir!

Initiative 82 requires restaurants and other businesses to pay tipped workers $16.10 per hour by 2027. The D.C. Council repealed a similar measure that passed in 2018.
