Today, we conclude a historic chapter as the first B20 Presidency ever led from the African continent. Thank you to every delegate, partner, Task Force member and contributor who helped shape this remarkable year of collaboration, dialogue and shared impact.

On Monday, 01 December 2025, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce officially assumes the B20 Presidency, including stewardship of these digital platforms. You will notice updated branding, a new name and a smooth transition into the next chapter of global business leadership.

As we hand over, we do so with pride in what South Africa has built: a legacy of inclusive growth, shared prosperity and strengthened cooperation.

Thank you, South Africa.

In his closing address at the Summit, B20 Sherpa Cas Coovadia delivered a message that went beyond reflection: a call to reimagine Africa's role in shaping global prosperity.

He reminded the world that Africa is not a single story, but 1.4 billion stories. Stories of ingenuity, resilience, creativity and economic progress. A continent that has moved from the margins of global dialogue to becoming a co-author of the global agenda.

His message was not a farewell, but an invitation to the global business community to carry forward what this Presidency has worked to create:
* Growth that includes rather than excludes.
* Cooperation that bridges rather than divides.
* Progress is defined not by fear, but by shared purpose.

As the B20 Presidency transitions to the United States, his call is simple and profound. In closing, he offered the words of Ben Okri, a reminder of what this moment asks of all of us:
"Our future is greater than our past. We are the miracles that must make the world anew."

The journey was carried by exceptional leadership and proudly hosted by Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) in partnership with Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA).​

B20 Legacy Initiatives: Mining & Critical Minerals​

​As the global shift toward decarbonisation accelerates, mining regions face growing risks, from declining operations to job losses and economic stagnation. ​

Transforming Mining-Dependent Economies into Sustainable Economic Hubs, developed by Minerals Council South Africa, Anglo America, Agricultural Business Chamber, AgriSA, Sasol, NBI, BUSA, and Agricultural Development Agency, brings together government, industry, and community partners to repurpose unmined and post-mining land into sustainable economic hubs, combining land rehabilitation, renewable energy, agri-processing, and enterprise development.​

Its work includes:​

Coordinating cross-sector efforts to align with regional and national development plans​

Piloting and scaling new industries such as agriculture and green energy​

Mobilising blended finance aligned to Just Transition priorities​

Creating a scalable playbook for regional regeneration, skills pathways, and job creation​

By planning early, while mines are still operational, this initiative helps mining regions rebuild their economies, diversify value chains, and unlock new engines of sustainable growth.​

Strengthening global collaboration is essential to sustaining long-term, inclusive growth. Two B20 South Africa Legacy Initiatives carry this mission forward by deepening cross-sector partnerships and expanding cooperation across presidencies.​

Beyond Collaboration Platform​

A cross-sector partnership improving South Africa’s water and infrastructure resilience. Developed with SAB, it brings business, government, and communities together to enhance reliability, transparency, and sustainable resource management.​

​From South Africa to the U.S and Beyond: Business–Philanthropy Legacy Partnership​

Led by the Independent Philanthropy Association South Africa, Krutham, Savant, Standard Bank, Anglo American Foundation, & WINGS, this initiative formalises collaboration between business and philanthropy, mobilising catalytic capital and building structured spaces for joint action on inclusive growth.​

Together, these initiatives advance a shared agenda for sustainable progress rooted in partnership, strengthened through cooperation, and sustained across G20 cycles.​

Africa continues to face some of the highest capital costs globally, limiting infrastructure investment, slowing development, and constraining economic opportunity. ​

Reducing the Cost of Capital for Africa, a Legacy Initiative developed with Standard Bank, Africa Finance Corporation, APRM, Africa Practice, and the ONE Campaign, delivers a Blueprint for Action centred on four priorities:​

• Strengthening sovereign capability to engage global markets​

• Driving coordinated reforms through multilateral forums​

• Improving the quality and availability of financial data​

• Shifting perceptions from “risk” to “opportunity” through evidence-based advocacy​

By advancing transparency, alignment, and innovative financing tools, the initiative supports more competitive capital access, helping African countries accelerate investment, resilience, and long-term growth.​

A national collaboration reducing food waste across the value chain through improved data systems, farmer-to-retailer training, cold-chain innovation, and stronger redistribution pathways — supporting food security and circular-economy outcomes.​

Carbon Knowledge Hub for Carbon Market Insights​
Partners: BloombergNEF, B20 Brazil, B20 Indonesia, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, ASEAN Indonesia​

An expanded open-access platform providing transparent, Africa-focused insights on carbon markets and taxes. Through data trackers, quarterly factsheets, and expert dialogues, the Hub strengthens climate-finance literacy and supports participation in emerging carbon markets.​

Together, these initiatives form part of a long-term commitment to sustainable growth, building capacity, improving systems, and unlocking new opportunities across the continent.​
