As we close out a day of reflection and remembrance, I’m sending warm wishes to our Ethiopian neighbors in Ward 4 and across DC as they welcome a new year. Melkam Addis Amet! 💛

Our Ethiopian community is an important part of the fabric of Ward 4 and our city, through our families, small businesses, faith communities, and neighbors who make DC stronger every day.

Wishing everyone celebrating a new year filled with peace, joy, good health, and time together with the people you love. Happy New Year! 🌼

Shanah Tovah to our Jewish neighbors in Ward 4 and across our city! 🍎🍯

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is a time for reflection, renewal, and looking ahead with hope. As our Jewish neighbors welcome a new year 5787, may we all continue to care for one another, strengthen our communities, and work together toward a more peaceful and just future.

Wishing everyone celebrating a sweet, healthy, and joyful new year. 💜

Today marks 25 years since the September 11 attacks. We remember those whose lives were taken, including those killed at the Pentagon, and hold their loved ones in our hearts.

We honor the first responders, public servants, and everyday people who showed extraordinary courage that day, as well as those who continue to live with its lasting effects.

With September 9 just one day away, Salvadoran families across Ward 4 and the District are facing uncertainty about the future of Temporary Protected Status.

For decades, Salvadoran residents have built lives, raised families, worked, opened businesses, and strengthened our communities. They are an essential part of Ward 4 and the fabric of DC, and they deserve stability, dignity, and the opportunity to continue building their futures here.

To our Salvadoran neighbors: you belong here. You are an important part of the District we call home, and you are not alone. I will continue standing with our immigrant communities and doing everything I can at the local level to support our neighbors as they navigate these federal threats.

Happy Labor Day, Ward 4! ☀️💦

There’s still time for one last splash! Today is the final day of the season for DC’s outdoor pools and splash parks, with splash parks closing at 6pm. If you’re looking for a way to enjoy the last days of summer with family, friends, and neighbors, head out for one more swim before the season comes to a close. Check DPR’s website before you go for the latest hours and information for your neighborhood pool or splash park.

And on this Labor Day, I’m especially grateful for the workers who keep Ward 4 and our entire city running every day. Whether you have today off or you’re spending the holiday on the job, thank you for all you do for our community. I hope you find some time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the day. 💜

As we head into Labor Day weekend, I’m thinking about the workers who keep Ward 4 and our city moving every day. Labor Day is a time to honor the workers who organized and fought for fair wages, safer working conditions, weekends, a dignified retirement, and respect on the job. Their courage reminds us that progress is possible when working people stand together and look out for one another.

Ward 4 workers care for our neighbors, educate our children, keep our communities running, and make our city stronger every day. Your hard work, determination, and commitment to our community inspire me to keep fighting for better conditions for working people and families across our ward.

Whether you have the holiday off or are among the many people keeping our community running throughout the weekend, thank you for all that you do. I hope you find time to rest, recharge, and celebrate. 💜

Today I joined Barnard students, educators, staff, and families in celebrating the completion of Barnard Elementary School's beautiful new addition in Petworth. The new space is as vibrant as the bright scholars who fill its halls!

As Ward 4 Councilmember and Chair of the Committee on Facilities, my staff and I worked with DC Public Schools and DC Department of General Services to support the creation of this inclusive and sustainable learning environment. Thank you to all of the DCPS, DGS, and Barnard staff, families and community for your dedication in making this space a reality. Congratulations to the Barnard community! 🐻
