Thank you Deputy Secretary Stephen Vaden for coming to Iowa and spending time hearing from Iowa’s ag community in Ogden.

Our farmers are getting squeezed by high fertilizer costs, low commodity prices, and razor-thin margins.

We had a good conversation earlier this week about what farmers are up against and the work being done to give producers some breathing room. I’ll keep pushing relentlessly to lower input costs, improve competition, and ensure our family farmers get what they need to do what they do best: feed and fuel the world.

This morning, I joined American Legion Post #37 in Ames to remember the innocent lives lost on September 11th & honor the heroes who risked everything to save others.

We remember their courage, our country’s strength, and the freedoms we must never take for granted. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Like so many Americans, I still remember where I was when I first heard the news of the attacks on September 11th — watching the images on television and trying to comprehend the magnitude of what was happening to our country.

But what stayed with me just as much is what came next. We saw strangers running toward danger to save people they had never met. We saw Americans come together with a sense of patriotism and purpose that was incredibly powerful. Even on our darkest day, we saw the best of the American spirit.

For many Americans, September 11th changed the course of their lives. A generation of young American patriots answered the call to serve. Young men and women who were just beginning their adult lives raised their hands, put on a uniform, and made a commitment to defend a country they love.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 people who never made it home that day because of cowardly, evil terrorists. We remember our heroic firefighters, police officers, and first responders. And we honor the veterans and service members who carried the weight of defending our nation in the years that followed. There’s a whole generation growing up without firsthand memories of 9/11. It’s incumbent upon us to ensure we never forget.

I was so proud to secure $2 million in Community Project Funding for Ely residents — the largest grant the city has ever received — to provide critical stormwater, sewer, and road improvements and revitalize downtown Ely.

Outdated infrastructure has made it difficult for businesses to operate and grow in Ely. These upgrades will open the door to new businesses, good-paying jobs, and more opportunity for the community.

It was great catching up with city leaders in Ely today to see the progress already made.

I’ll always deliver for rural Iowa. Can’t wait to be back soon!

Congratulations Chief Dostal on your retirement!

Thank you for your decades of dedicated service to the Cedar Rapids community and your commitment to keeping Eastern Iowans safe. I wish all the best to you and your family in this next chapter!

Cedar Rapids Police Chief David L. Dostal announced his retirement today, closing a career that has spanned more than three decades of service to the Cedar Rapids community.

Dostal was appointed as the 28th Police Chief in Department history on February 13, 2024, after beginning his career with the Department as a Police Officer in 1991.

“It has been the honor of my life to serve the residents of Cedar Rapids and to work alongside the men and women of this Police Department,” said Dostal. “I am proud to have had the opportunity to serve with the professional and dedicated employees of the Police Department. The stellar work conducted day in and day out by all sworn and non-sworn truly shows how safe Cedar Rapids is. This department means the world to me. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the best department in the state. I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with City leadership and the community for their trust and support, and I am confident the department will continue to provide the highest level of professional service to our city.”

“Chief Dostal has led the Cedar Rapids Police Department with a deep commitment to both his officers and the community he grew up serving,” said City Manager Jeff Pomeranz. “His career reflects his dedication to law enforcement and the people he serves alongside. We are grateful for his service to Cedar Rapids.”

Dostal’s career with the Cedar Rapids Police Department included service across many of the Department’s divisions, work that he has credited with teaching him to care deeply for the officers who risk their lives every day for the community and with allowing him to build and maintain strong community relationships. A graduate of Cornell College, Dostal completed numerous professional development programs during his career, including the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute for Police in 2021, and received recognitions including Recruit Officer of the Year, the Community Service Award, the Commendation of Heroism, Police Officer of the Year, Employee of the Quarter, and the Enrique “Kiki” Camarena Award presented by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration for his efforts to make Cedar Rapids a drug-free community.
Chief Dostal’s last day in the office will be on October 2, 2026. The City will announce next steps regarding interim leadership of the Police Department and the process to select the next Chief of Police in the coming days.

Today, I toured the Emergency Department at UnityPoint Health in Marion and visited with the incredible team who keeps it running. Our healthcare workers give so much of themselves to care for our families, often missing holidays and time with their own loved ones.

Thank you for all you do, and for spending your Labor Day taking care of Iowans!

Iowa cattle producers deserve a fair shot in the marketplace.

I am grateful to see these efforts to increase competition in the ag industry. Iowa farmers produce the highest quality and safest food products in the world, and I look forward to continuing to work together to reduce regulatory barriers and ensure they receive fair prices for their products.

More competition means more choices for producers, lower prices for consumers, and a stronger American beef industry.

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered: Section 1. Purpose. Every child deserves a safe and nurturing home where they can learn, grow, and reach their full potential. Adoption makes that possible by opening th...

Senator Chuck Grassley is right. Iowa farmers have been getting squeezed by high input costs while some of the same American-made products are being sold for far less overseas. That doesn’t sit right with me, and it sure doesn’t sit right with the farmers I talk to.

We’ve started to take on unfair pricing in big pharma — there’s still way more to do — but let’s bring that same pressure here.

Our farmers work too hard feeding and fueling the world to get a raw deal here at home.

The team joined UnityPoint Health St. Luke’s Hospital for the ribbon cutting of its new Vascular & Interventional Radiology Department. The new space will help bring more specialized care to patients right here in Northeast Iowa.
